Modern Farmhouse Bed Frame

Learn how to easily build a pretty and affordable twin bed frame!

This bed cost me about $90 in lumber plus $30 in paint and primer, for a total of
$120 to build.

MATTRESS SIZING: The mattress opening for this twin bed frame is 75″ x 39″
which left a little extra room around our specific twin mattress and box frame.
Adjust measurements as needed if your box spring/mattress is a different size.

In my project I used IKEA HAUGESUND mattress.

Step1: Make initial lumber cuts

Use a miter saw and make the cuts listed below for the headboard, footboard, side rails and slats.
For optimal cutting cut lumber in the following order:

1st 4x4: @43’’ - Footboard top rail @32.5’’ - Headboard post @15.5’’ - Footboard post
2nd 4x4: @43’’ - Headboard top rail @32.5’’ - Headboard post @15.5’’ - Footboard post

1st 2x6: @36’’ - Footboard slat @36’’ - Headboard slat

2nd 2x6: @36’’ - Headboard slat @36’’ - Headboard slat
3rd 2x6: @75’’ - Side rail
4th 2x6: @75’’ - Side rail

1st 2x2: @75’’ - Slat support rail

2nd 2x2: @75’’ - Slat support rail

1st 1x4: @39’’ - Slat @39’’ - Slat @39’’ - Slat

2nd 1x4: @39’’ - Slat @39’’ - Slat @39’’ - Slat
3rd 1x4: @39’’ - Slat @39’’ - Slat @39’’ - Slat
4th 1x4: @39’’ - Slat @39’’ - Slat @39’’ - Slat

After cutting I advice to sand pieces with 80 grit sandpaper with orbital sander.

Step 1: Footboard
Step 1.1

Add pocket holes to the Footboard slat (3)

Step 1.2

Place Footboard posts (1) and Footboard top rail

(2) on the flat surface. Also add Foodboar slat (3)
it should be attached in the middle of the posts,
so for convenience I placed 2 pieces of ½
drywall sheet underneath as spacer. We need 1’’
distance from the edge of the post to set
Foodboard slat in the middle.

Step 1.3

Attach Footboard posts (1) and

Footboard top rail (2) to Foodboard
slat with 2-½’’ pocket screws.

Note: Use glue for additional strength

Step 1.2

Now it’s time to add the 2×2 slat support rail

(8) to the side rail board (7).

Attach using a generous amount of wood

glue and nine 2 1/2″ wood screws along the
2×2. (8).

to hold up the side rails in place and
attach them to the headboard and footboard
with 2 1/2″ Kreg screws.
