Corresponding sides

are the pair of matching

sides that are placed at
the same spot in two
different shapes.
We can say that two
triangles are similar if
i) Corresponding angles of
both triangles are
congruent
ii)Corresponding
sides of both
triangles are
proportional
Basic Proportionality
Theorem or BPT

If a line is drawn parallel

to one side of a triangle
intersecting the other two
sides in distinct points,
then the other two sides are
divided in the same ratio.

𝐷𝐸 ∥ 𝐵𝐶
|𝐴𝐷| = 5 𝑐𝑚, |𝐵𝐷| = 𝑥 + 6
𝑐𝑚, |𝐴𝐸| = 3 𝑐𝑚, and |𝐶𝐸|
= 𝑥 + 3 cm. Find |AB|.
SEATWORK:
In ∆𝑃𝑄𝑅, 𝑖f |𝑃𝑇| = 3𝑥 + 1
cm, |𝑇𝑅| = 3𝑥 – 1 cm, |𝑄𝑆|
= 5𝑥 – 1 cm, and |𝑅𝑆| = 4𝑥
+ 1 cm, find the value of 𝑥.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Define Basic
Proportionality
Theorem (BPT)
2. Solve problems
involving proportions
using proportionality
theorem
3. Appreciate the
importance of
using BPT in
real-life situation
Converse of the Basic
Proportionality
Theorem
If a line intersects two
sides of a triangle and
the sides are divided
into segments which are
proportional, then the
line is parallel to the
third side.
