Learner-Centered Psychological Principles

INTRODUCTION

Learner-centered psychological principles and a systems perspective for

incorporating them are necessary components of a new design for schooling. Among
metacognitive and cognitive factors that influence schooling are the nature of the
learning process itself, the goals of the learning process, the construction of
knowledge, and higher-order thinking. Learner-centered principles emphasize the
needs, capabilities, perspectives, talents, and backgrounds of individual learners,
helping them develop knowledge and skills for their careers. Teachers need to build a
good relationship with their students, as friends and playmates, to create a pleasant
and fun learning environment that encourages active participation. These
psychological principles and the philosophical statement framing them have
subsequently been revised and are currently under review (APA Board of Educational
Affairs, 1995). In our view, these resulting principles can be invaluable tools for
practicing professionals as they seek to understand and facilitate the learning of
others.

In my perspective on this, learner-centered psychological principles help the educator

and learner in the process of learning because they give control over how they acquire
the knowledge throughout their behavior. The importance of the psychological of the

learner is involved in their learning journey. We al l know that learner-centered

teaching

will also allow them to share their knowledge and perspective with others because
this way we can assess the situation of the learner and it will be able for us to know
their learning process.

These principles not only talk about the process of learning but also the lessons we
can get from the learner and this way the information passes vice versa. This way it
will give a bond to both parties such as the learner and the educator to express their
knowledge and to nurture it more. In learner-centered psychology principles also
tackle the differences between individuals in learning where in their environment,
strategies, and also the their learning capabilities of the learners. The approaches will
be effective if the learning session caters to the diversity of the individual where in
they freely express themselves and their cultural, and spiritual beliefs. We can also
identify if these principles are successful we must have an assessment where w e
measure the progress of individual on their academic performances.

In my conclusion, these approaches, and principles are essential to the learning journey of
individuals. As a future educator, I will use this so that I can identify the differences of
my learners in their psychological because their cognitive is connected to that. These
principles also help me to know the journey to how I am going to assess the learning
capabilities of my learners. Learner-centered instructional practices in teacher education
courses are suggested for each of the four LCP factors/domains, including strategies for
promoting teacher reflection and knowledge construction, offering students choices,
