QUESTION 2 (Start on a new page)

A standard solution of sodium hydroxide is prepared by dissolving 4,5 g of the substance in

pure water and making the solution up to a total volume of 250 cm 3 is then titrated with a
sulphuric acid solution of unknown concentration. The endpoint of the titration is reached when
24,5 cm3 of sulphuric acid has reacted.

2.1 Define the term endpoint of a titration. (2)

2.2 Construct a balanced chemical equation for the reaction that takes place. (3)

2.3 Explain the meaning of the term standard solution. (2)

2.4 Calculate the:

2.4.1 Concentration of the NaOH solution (6)

2.4.2 Concentration of the sulphuric acid solution (6)

2.5 How much water must be added to 100cm3 of a 0,45 molꞏdm-3 NaOH solution to change
its concentration to 0,3 molꞏdm-3. (7)
