AIM: To familiarize students with the present conditional for


expressing conditions.

OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson the students will be able to:

1) Draw the rule of the present conditional from given sentences


2) Put verbs into the present conditional
3) Build meaningful sentences using the present conditional

-Greeting + singing

-The teacher chooses a pupil to tell the date and write it on the board

-Announcement of the day’s lesson by the teacher: Today we are


going to study the present conditional in the affirmative form.

STAGE I: PRESENTATION (12 mns)


I-Formation

Step1: The teacher writes the corpus on the board


1-I would/should eat some rice.

2-You would learn your lessons.

Step2:

The rule of the conditional present is:

S + Would/should + V + O

NB: -Should is generally used with I and We, but Would is used with all the subjects.

-would = ‘d

STAGE II: PRACTICE

Ativity1: Oral and individual

Instruction: listen and put the verbs in the following sentences into the present conditional.

1- The students (to play) football.

2- Ali (to study) in America.

3- We (to watch) television.

4-I (to come) to you.


5-He (to write) a novel.

Activity2: Written and pair

Step1: With your neighbour re-write the following sentences into the present conditional.

1-My son is a policeman.

2-They will succeed in the exam.

3-I had much money.

4-My father has given me a present.

5-The police arrests the criminals.

Step1: What would you do if you had money/if you succeeded in your exam? Using the present
conditional and in pair build 5 meaningful sentences to express your ideas.

The rule is:

S + Would/should + not + V +O

NB: Should not = shouldn’t

Would not = wouldn’t

II-The interrogative form

Step1:

1-Would you accompany me to my uncle?

2-Should we wait for him?

3-Would your mother come back?


Step2:

The rule is: Would/should + S + V + O +?

III-The interro-negative form

Step1:

1-Shouldn’t we go to the theatre?

2-Wouldn’t they arrest the opponents?

3-Wouldn’t Alice become an MP?

Step2:

The structure is: Wouldn’t/shouldn’t + S + V + O +?

STAGE II: PRACTICE

Activity1: Oral and individual

Instruction: The following sentences are in the present conditional. Listen carefully and put them into
the indicated form.

1-The pupils will read the book. (Interrogative form)I would work in a bank.

2-The dog would bite you. (Negative form)

3-The chief would clean the board. (Interro-negative form)

4-They would do their homework. (Negative form)

5-She would be rich. (Interrogative form)

Step1: Put the verbs in brackets into the present conditional.

2- The dogs (to hunt) the lions?

3- You (not to help) me in Mathematics?

4- Our team (not to win) the match.

5- We (not to refuse) your help.
