CHAPTER 5

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary of findings, conclusion and recommendations of the

study based on the findings of the previous chapter.

The study is all about the Migration of Muslims in Camiling: A Tracer Study, focuses on

the personal profiles of the Muslim migrants in Camiling and the reason behind why they

migrated in this community. Ten (10) Muslim vendors in Camiling Public Market are the main

source of data of this study. Moreover, the researchers used both method of Quantitative and

Qualitative research which is the Descriptive method. Wherein the researchers performed a

survey among the respondents, and the Phenomenological method, where they conducted an

interview and observation in order to have sufficient data that will be needed in the study. The

gathered data through survey were translated into tables, while the other findings have

transcribed one by one and it is supported by review of related literature and studies.

Summary of Findings

Based on the data presented in Chapter four (4), the following findings were summarized

and presented below:

1. How is the Muslims profile described in terms of personal and socio-economic status?
Based from the result, Muslim migrants in Camiling are about 18-22, 23-27, and 38-42

years old and majority of them are female. Most of them came from the city of Marawi. On the

other hand, they are now living near in the Camiling Public Market, specifically, in

Cacamilingan Norte. Furthermore, most of the Muslim migrants are married and have a children

who are now studying also in Camiling. Their highest educational attainment is only high school

graduate due to the several conflicts back then. As a result, almost all of the Muslims are self-

employed that now works as a vendor in Camiling Public Market with a temporary status of

employment. However, they earned Php 5,000 up to 10,000 income every month that can able to

support their family.

2. What are the problems encountered/reasons by the Muslims in their homeland before

they migrated in Camiling?

The primary reason of the Muslims in migrating to Camiling is to seek a better place for

business. They say, it was hard for them to earn money in their homeland due to several issues.

One of the respondents even said that, “Life in Mindanao was hard, most especially if you aren’t

a worker or an employee of the Government.” As a result, many families are living in poverty, so

majority of them decided to move in Camiling, thinking that this community would be a better

place for business due to the thought that Camiling is part of the ‘Center of Industry’ (Sentro ng

Kalakalan) where it is easy to earn money and more civilized compared in Mindanao.

3. What is the implication of the migration of Muslims in Camiling?


Based on the findings, the migration of Muslims here in Camiling have a good result.

Most of them now became stable after engaging themselves through business in Camiling Public

Market. To the point that, they got their own house, vehicles, and other assets, they even earned a

lot of savings as time goes by. In addition, there are also no traced of conflicts happened between

Muslims and those people in Camiling. In fact, they are helping the community to provide all the

needs of people in Camiling by having a different business, 1/4 of the vendors in Camiling

Public Market are Muslims based from the data gathered in the office of Barangay Cacamilingan

Norte. Meanwhile, the children of Muslims are also studying in different schools of Camiling.

They socialize with others like normal people do, no discrimination and bullying have been

happen, which make them comfortable in living herein Camiling.

4. What are the advantages that they get after migrating to Camiling?

According to the findings, the main advantage of the Muslims in migrating to Camiling is

they’ve got a successful business after staying here for few years. Then ended up of having a

stable life, where they can now sustain their own families.

On the other hand, there’s also disadvantage that they get after migrating in Camiling.

The number one is, they always experienced flashfloods, most especially during typhoons and

non-stop rains and it takes time before they recover in the calamity.

Conclusions

Based on the findings, the researchers concluded the following:


1. Muslim migrants in Camiling are still under the age of young adult and majority of them are

female. Came from the city of Marawi, while their present address in Camiling is at

Cacamilingan Norte where their Mosque is located. Married, with ideal family size, a high

school graduate, self-employed that now works as a businessmen/vendors and most of them

received Php 5,000 up to 10,000 income/salary every month.

2. The primary reason of the Muslims in migrating to Camiling is to seek a better place for

business, to escape in war, been traumatized in their homeland, in search of better economic

opportunities and alike.

3. Muslim migrants in Camiling found stability in economic opportunities where they engage

themselves in businesses, securing safety among their family, thus, gives better life opportunities

in general.

4. Most of the respondents found a better place to live in where better opportunities is

experienced by them such as having business, obtaining peaceful life and able for them to

purchase some assets and properties. On the other hand, they are just having a bad time to adjust

on the flooding in Camiling.

Recommendations

1. The Municipality of Camiling should organize a group/club for all Muslim migrants for better

recording of their activities in Camiling.

2. Allow all these Muslim migrants to be registered on official voters of the Municipality of

Camiling.
3. Regulate the businesses of Muslim migrants so that they will not take advantage in having

several business in the Camiling Public Market.

4. Further research can be done after this study, mainly focuses on the Emergence of Muslims in

Camiling or Case Study of the Muslim Migration in Camiling.
