Narrator:
What do cars mean to you? Are they just transportation, or a nuisance? Well, I believe they’re
something more than that, they are an outlet for creativity, an outlet for passion, pain and
symbols of perseverance. Car culture has long been thought of as young guys revving their
straight piped Vauxhall Corsa’s in the Tesco car park, but if you look closer, you’ll see its much
more than that.
Me-
This is my 2014 Volkswagen Polo SE, its nothing special, it’s quite slow, the ride is rough, and
the materials are cheap, however this car means a lot to me, it represents my freedom, and it’s a
canvas for creativity (if I had any money of course). Whilst this car represents the everyday
runabout, this car also can be shaped and molded into a completely different car. But for now it's
going to be the thing that takes me to wherever i need to go, and i'm sure that i'll make loads of
memories with it.
Me-
This is an example of what i mean by a blank canvas, a boring economy car transformed into
one of the most dominant rally cars of the 21st Century. It's image transformed from one of
boring German efficiency, to a car of legendary status revered by all rally fans. It's iconic sound
penetrating the snowy mountains of France, or the fields of Poland. And the fact that that car
shares it's DNA with my car, makes me feel like i could achieve what the engineers at
Volkswagen did.
Me-
Of course, if you have more cash to splash, you’ll be able to afford this Alfa Romeo
Quadrifoglio, a true work of art. This car represents the legacy of Alfa Romeo and its timeless
design. It represents the Italian way; does it work all the time? no. Is it reliable? No. For an Alfa
Romeo isn't made to be reliable, it's made to sound and look beautiful. An Alfa Romeo isn't for
your average person, it’s made for people who love cars, who don't care if it breaks down,
because that means they'll be able to fix it. And when the average person says that driving an
Alfa slowly feels weird, it’s because it doesn't want to go slow, it wants to carve up the
mountains of north Italy, and speed down the Autostrada. So, looking at this car from the surface,
it's unreliable, it's high maintenance and it's a waste of money, but if you love cars, if you get a
feeling of joy from going flat out, you'll love this car, it sings as the engine revs all the way up to
7000rpm, it looks like a work of art. So, for someone who loves cars, this is one you should put
on your bucket list
Top of a field, i'm standing facing away from the camera, and then i turn
Me- So that's it, you've seen what car culture has to offer, and as you can see, it's a bit more
than a couple idiots ragging their 1.2 litre Vauxhall Corsa's round the Tesco car park. Car culture
is for everyone, it’s not for the super rich and the talented, it's for everyone. I hope you all see
now what I’m trying to get across, Goodbye.
