LETTER FROM
THE DIRECTOR
Namaste!
MUN conferences play a vital role in preparing young minds to become informed,
engaged global citizens capable of finding solutions to real-world issues, fostering
negotiation skills, compromise, and consensus-building. It provides opportunities
for delegates to take on leadership roles and influence international relations
positively. MUN's essence lies in its philosophy of resolving conflicts through
collaboration rather than confrontation.
This philosophy resonates deeply within the ethos embraced by our students at
The Shriram Millennium School. We initiate the Second Edition of TSMS MUN
under the theme “Redefining the Narrative: Voicing the Silenced” with an aim to
giving a platform and amplifying the voices of those who have been historically
marginalized, oppressed, or silenced.
This includes individuals or communities whose stories, struggles, and
achievements have been ignored or suppressed by mainstream discourse or
power structures. By providing a platform for these voices to be heard and valued,
we acknowledge their experiences and perspectives, fostering greater empathy,
understanding, and social change.
Witnessing our students embrace diplomacy and collaboration through TSMS
MUN MUN fills us with pride and joy. We are confident that this
marks the beginning of a journey filled with significant
accomplishments and transformative experiences.
I am eagerly anticipating the Second Edition of TSMS MUN
and the array of successes that lie ahead for our
exceptional students. Together, we will continue to inspire
and shape a future that is brighter and more harmonious.
Warm regards,
Uttara Singh,
Director - TSMS
LETTER FROM
THE PRINCIPAL
Namaste!
As TSMS gets ready to unveil the second edition of TSMS MUN, “Redefining the
Narrative: Voicing the Silenced” there is much excitement and the school is
already abuzz! MUN as an educational simulation, is a great platform to learn
about diplomacy, international relations, as well as to develop skills such as public
speaking, negotiation, critical thinking and research. As an institution, TSMS,
strongly believes in empowering and developing in its students the skill set and
knowledge to address the challenges of the 21st century. Dialogue, discussion and
deliberation being the best way forward to find effective solutions, MUN thus
becomes one of the most effective platforms to help students engage with global
issues, develop leadership skills and foster cross-cultural understanding.
In a world inundated with information and perspectives, the power of narrative
cannot be overstated. It shapes our understanding, influences our actions, and
ultimately defines our reality. As we get ready for this year's TSMS, MUN, let us
recognize the profound impact of narratives on global affairs and the imperative
to redefine them for a more just and impartial world.
In redefining the narrative, lets us be fearless, let us be
courageous, let us exhibit empathy and a commitment to
truth-seeking by challenging the conventional wisdom and
beliefs. By redefining the narrative, we have the chance to
rewrite history, to transcend division– not just for ourselves,
but for generations to come.
And in this process of redefining the narrative, let
every silenced voice be heard, one voice at a time!
Together, let’s rewrite the story of the world!
Warm regards,
Ramanjit Nagi,
Principal - TSMSN
LETTER FROM THE
SECRETARY-GENERAL
Dear Esteemed Delegates,
It is with great pleasure and anticipation that I extend a warm invitation to
you, to the 2nd edition of the TSMS Model United Nations Conference 2024.
After an enthralling first edition, we are back again, stronger than ever, hoping
for a conference nothing short of the best. The theme for this year’s
conference is “Redefining the Narrative: Voicing the Silenced.” As Secretary-
General, I am excited to welcome you to an event created with the sole
intention of finding the intersection between diplomacy and discourse.
Our theme underscores the importance of amplifying those voices that have
long been marginalised or silenced in global conversations. It is a call to action
for all delegates to participate in meaningful dialogue, challenge existing
narratives, and work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable world.
The TSMS Model United Nations Conference 2024 promises to be a platform
where delegates will engage in rigorous debate, negotiation, and consensus-
building on a myriad of global issues.

From international trade to press freedom, from

reproductive rights to Indian statehood, we will
tackle pressing challenges facing the world today.
Once again, I am delighted to invite you to join
us in this journey of discovery, dialogue,
and diplomacy, where wit is as crucial as
wisdom. Together, I believe that we have the
ability to redefine the narrative. So let’s start
here, at The Shriram Millennium School,
Noida on 26th and 27th July, 2024.
Sincerely,
Avnie Saraf,
Secretary-General

GENERAL
ASSEMBLY

Our interconnected world faces a multifaceted challenge – a complex

meshing of disruptions to global supply chains. Geopolitical conflicts
strangle trade routes, while resource concentration in vulnerable
regions leaves "just-in-time" manufacturing teetering on the brink of
collapse. Natural disasters like floods cripple ports, disrupting delicately
poised demand-supply balances. Economic downturns trigger
protectionism and currency fluctuations, further fragmenting markets.
Pandemics add another layer of chaos – lockdowns disrupt the
availability of labour, and resource-constrained nations struggle for
medical supplies. This committee offers a vital platform to delve into
technical solutions: diversifying raw material sources, building resilient
infrastructure like ports and canals, and fostering international
cooperation on financial regulations and early warning systems as a
precaution. By tackling these complexities head-on, delegates can forge
a more robust and equitable global supply chain, ensuring the
uninterrupted flow of vital goods and safeguarding the well-being of all.

HUMAN
RIGHTS
COUNCIL

We face a critical issue in the modern world - the encroachment of our

right to freedom of speech. Governments often suppress dissenting
voices, restrict access to information and use legal means to silence
critical reporting. Journalists face risks ranging from imprisonment to
physical harm and often put their lives on the line to ensure that the
truth reaches the masses. Additionally, surveillance and digital
censorship pose new challenges to the evolving world of independent
journalism through social media, hindering investigative journalism
and endangering reporters' safety, both online and in the real world.
Addressing these threats requires international intervention, cross-
border collaboration, legal protection, and support networks for
journalists operating in hostile environments, ensuring that reporting
on human rights abuse remains a vital tool in holding oppressive
governments accountable for their actions. Delegates will explore the
challenges faced by journalists in their pursuit of free speech, as well
as solutions to hold oppressive states accountable for infringement.

UNITED

SECURITY
COUNCIL

The world today stands at a critical juncture, where the very

fabric of international law and the well-being of a vulnerable
population converge. The presence of minors in military forces
worldwide poses a significant challenge to the principles
outlined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC),
which explicitly prohibits the recruitment and utilisation of
child soldiers. Involving minors in military forces is a deeply
condemnable practice prohibited by laws worldwide.
Nevertheless, minors continue to be present in armed forces in
countries that disregard the fundamental human rights that
should be guaranteed to all children globally. Minors, some as
young as eight years old, are robbed of their childhood,
deprived of basic education and healthcare, and exposed to
unthinkable violence. This committee will ask delegates to
deliberate and engage in discourse over resolving this issue and
providing minors with the life they truly deserve, rather than a
life they are forced to live, one of conflict, blood and terror.

ORGANISATION

IoT (Internet of Things) and Telemedicine are medical

innovations aimed at fostering global health services to
provide them efficiently and at a lower cost, making them
available to all. Access to quality healthcare remains a
challenge in many parts of the world due to geographical
barriers, infrastructure limitations, and resource constraints.
The integration of IoT devices and telemedicine platforms
presents a promising opportunity to bridge these gaps and
improve healthcare delivery in a quicker and more efficient
manner, even remotely. While global economies like the USA,
EU, UK, and India have begun implementing these
technologies, the majority of countries lag behind. As the
world re-evaluates its medical readiness, collaboration and
innovation are key to progress. Delegates will evaluate the
feasibility of IoT and telemedicine in their respective countries
and deliberate upon shared innovation and research to
implement such technologies in their countries.

The debate surrounding access to reproductive healthcare

facilities and sanitation for women in underdeveloped and
developing nations is crucial for addressing health disparities
and promoting gender equality. Restricted access to such
services increases maternal mortality rates, perpetuates cycles
of poverty, and limits women's autonomy over their bodies.
Advocates emphasise the need for comprehensive
reproductive health education, affordable contraception, and
safe abortion options to empower women and improve public
health. Additionally, ensuring access to clean water and
sanitation facilities is essential for preventing infections and
promoting overall well-being. By prioritising investments in
healthcare infrastructure and policy reform, governments and
international organisations can advance women's rights,
enhance healthcare equity, and foster sustainable
development in vulnerable communities.

PRIME MINISTER’S

The abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)

in August 2019 marked a pivotal moment in India's
constitutional history. This article, which granted special status
to the region of J&K, was seen by some as a barrier to its full
integration with the Indian Union. By removing Article 370, the
Indian government aimed to foster greater economic
development, improve governance, and enhance security in
the region. However, the move was met with mixed reactions,
with proponents lauding it as a step towards national unity
and critics decrying it as a violation of the state’s autonomy.
The bifurcation of the state into two union territories further
underscored the complexities surrounding the issue. Delegates
will step into the shoes of lawmakers from both the centre and
the state along with the opposition; planning to analyse the
effects of the abrogation of article 370 on the region, its
subsequently divided union territories, and the nation as a
whole. This issue continues to provoke debate and shape the
socio-political landscape of J&K and India as a whole.

INTERNATIONAL

PRESS
The International Press Committee in a Model United Nations
(MUN) conference plays a pivotal role in simulating real-world
media dynamics. Journalists within the committee investigate,
report, and publish news articles covering debates, resolutions,
and interviews. Caricaturists contribute by providing
humorous visual representations, adding a creative and light-
hearted dimension to the coverage. Photographers play a
crucial role in visually documenting the conference, capturing
key moments, emotions, and interactions through storytelling
images. Together, these diverse roles enrich the MUN
experience by offering a multi-faceted portrayal of the
proceedings. The International Press Committee not only
mirrors the functions of a real press corps but also adds depth,
humor, and visual storytelling to the simulation, enhancing the
overall engagement and authenticity of the MUN conference.
