Concept Statement

Im designing the front office at East Ridge High School. The client reached out to
me and informed me about certain problems with the space, I was told that it was bland,
and repetitive, the walls were lifeless and it was dim. The client told me that they wanted
the space to be brighter, and requested the chosen paint to represent the school colors.
When I designed this space, when you first enter the office, I painted the walls with
navy blue, and orange. I also had an accent wall to create a focal point. I retiled the
flooring with white tiles to balance with the walls. I covered the closet up with a white
board and added a few plants around the space to make the room seem more lively. I
took away the brown storage piece and exchanged it for more seating to open the room
up. To lighten the room, I changed the bulbs in the overhead lighting to amit whiter light.

Drawbacks

- Air conditioning in the window, blocking natural lighting from coming in, and
unable to move it, due to budget.
- Halfway up the walls, there is a trim piece, and under it there is a gap of material,
costing more to get it filled
- With only a $700 budget, trying to compensate for all the wants and needs of the
client will be difficult, factoring in furniture and paint costs
- Missing information from the client, hindering me from fully finishing my design
concept
- With all the staff and students, it is a high traffic area // no time to do work until
school hours are finished

Justification

I think this design fits my clients needs because the walls are painted with school
colors, the lighting is brighter, and plants are scattered around to make the space more
vibrant and lively. The space is more open and there is more seating to purpose less
people standing and crowding around.
