1. We define physics as a branch of science that deals with the study of matter and its relationship with
energy. Briefly explain;

a) What the term matter means. (Include the definition, the states in which it exists and at least two
examples of each state). (07 marks)

b) What energy means and state any two of its sources. (03 marks)

2. a) we learn that temperature changes are a result of heat effects in a body. Briefly distinguish
between temperature and heat and in each case, state also the S.I unit (03 marks)

b) A thermometer as an instrument used to measure temperature uses specific liquids. State the two
liquids used. (02 marks)

c) Give reasons why water is not among the liquids used in b) above (02 marks)

d) Convert 38OC to kelvin. (01 mark)

3. During the visitation day at your school, parents and guardians flooded the school compound and as
one of ways to promote the school to the outside community, you were selected to show the parents
around the school laboratory. Many laboratory apparatuses were displayed and parents are eagerly
waiting to see how well their learners have attained knowledge and skills while at school.
TASK:

Briefly organize a presentation you would give to the parents about the physics laboratory.
(Include the definition of the laboratory, at least 4 rules and regulations they must abide by
as they enter the physics laboratory and names of at least 5 apparatuses and their respective
use). (10 marks)

4. Physics as a branch of science helps us to understand and explain natural occurrences. These include
shadows, lightning, rainbow, eclipses, and earthquakes, how an object thrown upwards comes back on
earth etc. using your knowledge of physics, explain the occurrence of any two amongst the mentioned
occurrences. (Use definitions were possible). (02 marks)
