ENGL 1102 – English Composition 2

University of the People

Abstract
A good abstract is characterized by its ability to effectively summarize the main points of a

research paper and capture the reader's attention. According to Editage Insights (2017), a great

abstract should adhere to certain guidelines. First, it should provide a clear and concise overview

of the study's objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. It should also be well-structured,

with a logical flow of information. It should be brief, typically between 150 to 250 words, and

written in a structured manner that follows a logical flow (Lange, n.d.). Furthermore, a good

abstract should be informative and engaging, capturing the reader's attention and conveying the

significance of the research. Additionally, a well-crafted abstract should avoid unnecessary

technical jargon and focus on conveying the main message and contribution of the study in a way

that is accessible to a wide audience (Editage Insights, 2017). By adhering to these principles, a

good abstract enhances the discoverability and comprehensibility of the research, attracting

potential readers and facilitating their understanding of the study's relevance and content.

Overall, a good abstract serves as a concise and informative snapshot of the research, enabling

readers to decide whether the full paper aligns with their interests and needs.
