As an Educational Assistant, I have worked with students from different backgrounds and
with different abilities. My experience has helped me to support them effectively by creat-
ing an inclusive classroom environment. To achieve this, I make it a point to understand
the unique needs of each student and adjust my approach accordingly. For instance, I have
learned how to manage challenging behaviors in a supportive yet firm manner. This helps to
create a safe and productive learning environment for all students. In supporting my students,
I make use of available resources such as technology in education and collaborate with other
members of the school community. My goal is always to find new ways to help my students
succeed.
Placement 2 — W. Ross MacDonald (Educational Support)
October 2021 – December 2021
W.R.M was my first in-person placement where I worked with my teacher and other Educa-
tional Assistants to support the students in the classroom. Each student had an IEP that was
tailored to their needs, and my job was to assist them accordingly. During my time there, I uti-
lized ASL/signed English to communicate with students from other classes, taught them the
basics of Braille, how to read it, and how to use a Brailler. I also received orientation and mo-
bility training to better understand low-vision blindness, how to support it, and how to guide
students.
