Three days before the Criminology Week, the CCJE departmental
officers, together with ma'am Latawan and sir Solis, had a meeting and briefing session. The said meeting was all about the Criminology Week, preparations and handling system were instructed. We've face several difficulties such as time availability of the officers, financial services, and lack of participation of the other elected officers which makes the decision making process to be tough. However, we're still very thankful for the support of the two instructors mentioned above.
On the first day of the Criminology Week, we, the departmental
officers were tasked by sir Jiminez to do the documentations and photographing the event; we did that up until the end of the Criminology Week. We had a hard time entering the civic center because of the strict policy which we're told to brush off dirt on our shoes and we're not allowed to enter foods and beverages. This alone took an hour or so to get all the criminology students inside the center. Moving forward, on the declaration of the opening of Criminology Week by our beloved Dean, sir Aldrin Taranco, he mentioned that the sole purpose of the event is to let the students enjoy and have fun, to be resilient and he said that even in the toughest times we could still laugh and enjoy our life. I was very ecstatic to hear it from our Dean. After all the messages, opening remarks and inspirational speech, the real event begin.
Different sports were stationed in different places. In my situation,
I am assigned to do the documentation for the basketball play. I stayed at the gym and do the work with one of my co-officer. I stayed there the whole morning and I wasn't able to really enjoy the first day of the criminology week. After the documentation I am still aren't able to go and watch other sport and support our team because one of our instructors were forcing us to stay at the gym, not out of his sight until the event on the gym is done. It was a very unpleasant experience; I can't even fully enjoy the rest of the day because of that. All of us were kept there and are not able to enjoy watching other games just because of the attendance that is a must to him and we should not leave his sight because if we're not physically present and away from the gym, he will mark us absent. I don't think that's fair and reasonable.
Moving forward, on the afternoon session we all moved to the
UEP grounds for the Laro ng Lahi. The Laro ng Lahi was all planned out by us, departmental officers and I am beyond proud that we're able to execute all the procedure, and it will not happen without the support of Ma'am Latawan and Sir Solis. As a officer, it's a huge victory for me to do all my duties, perform well and I was able to provide fun game that were used on that very day. The heat didn't stopped us, the exhaustion didn't hinder us to continue with the game and I know we've done exceptionally well. The first day ended up with a mixture of happiness and bitterness. Moreover, it seems like the other instructors didn't appreciate our work and dedication in making the game happen. I don't remember receiving a word of gratitude that day; I think it doesn't matter anymore because I know we did very well. Overall, the first day was not a good start, at least for me. CRIMINOLOGY WEEK: DAY 2 The championship for the ball games comes on the second day. The first play was the boy category, the blue team versus the red team. Unfortunately, our team weren't able to win the game, the red team wins the championship. On the other hand, on the girl category, the black team won the championship; it was a fun and exciting game. Additionally, after the championship game, the winning team of the boy category has to play against the College of Criminal Justice Education instructors, and so was the female category of the volleyball team. The morning session was full of games played both by the students and instructors.
After the championship games in the morning, the pageant comes
to light in the afternoon session. Preparations such as designing the stage and sound checking was done before the pageant finally got to begin. To be honest, I wasn't able to attend the pageant because of my part time job; and so I don't know if I can still write down what happened to me in the afternoon but anyways I will still add it. Moving forward, around 1:30 pm I went to the McDonald store and I was told to add my biometrics. After that, my working hours has begun. To sum it up, after work I went back as soon as possible to the gym and fortunately the pageant is still ongoing. When I arrived, the announcements of the winners were already happening: best in long gown, most photogenic etc. My beloved friend/mother, Kathleen Yabut, was one of the contestants. Ever since the beginning, I know and I am certain that she will win the crown and I wasn't wrong because she did get the crown that night. My emotions were overflowing, I am delighted to hear the screams of the other supporters, the hear her number being called and indicating that she had won the pageant. I am beyond proud of what she achieved, the efforts and sacrifices were paid off prettily. After all the crowning and picture taking with the judges, I went to the stage and wait for my turn to take a picture with her; she's so beautiful and she look stunning. When it was my time, I hugged her first and we proceeded to the photo taking, after that a family picture happened, it was me, Jo and Kath. We also called papa Paolo, her boyfriend, to come to the stage and take a photo with her, he's that very shy person.
In conclusion, the pageant ended late and instead of going home
right afterwards we waited for an hour or so for the attendance. Couple of my classmates were already worried because going home that late will result them to be scolded by their parents and the transportation will make it even hard to go home. Despite all the worries, they still patiently waited for the checking of attendance. Moreover, we were able to finish the pageant. The second day was better than the first day, for me at least. CRIMINOLOGY WEEK: DAY 3
The last day of the criminology week, we were instructed to stay
inside the civic center for we must listen and gain information and knowledge from the seminar. The seminar was only conducted in the morning and there was another activity in the afternoon for all the 4 th years and those who recently passed the board examination, together with all the instructors of College of Criminology and Justice Education.
The seminar started at 8:00 AM and It ended earlier than we
expected because of the sudden power outrage. But during the talk of our guest speaker, I’ve learned a lot about the processes on how to apply for the tri-bureau and other branches that concerns our chosen field. In addition, even at the last day of the seminar we were still doing the documentation that was tasked to us by Sir Anthony Jimenez, it’s very tiring because of the heat and it’s very crowded during that day which didn’t helped me at all because I was a bit shy to do so. On the other hand, I was only able to take a picture of the slides that was shown on the projector and I wasn’t able to really catch up on some of the lessons because of me doing my documentation. In conclusion, the only thing that caught my attention was the phrase “don’t give up” because even if you’re persistent, patient and hard working of you give up in the end it will all end up in vain and you ended up waisting time and the opportunity itself. But what really made it more challenging that day was, of course, the attendance, again. It was already tiring to sit for the whole 4 hours and waiting for the attendance made it even worse. I am not able to enjoy the rest of the day. To end it, I am still glad the criminology week happened and it somehow helped me forget my school works even for a short period of time. Thank you for making it happen, College of Criminology and Justice Education Faculty members.
