Modify System Item Key Flexfield Setup

Revised 9/12/00

Application: Inventory

Process: System Items Key Flexfield

Objectives: 1. R2i includes a System Item Key Flexfield definition. This is a single segment,
15 character field. Most R2i clients should find this sufficient for their item
requirements. In the event that this does not meet the client’s needs, this document
explains the steps for changing the System Item Key Flexfield.
Prerequisites: 1. The System Item Key Flexfield should only be changed during initial system
setup. If items have been defined, it is recommended that this key flexfield not be
changed.

Overview

Note: This work guide assumes the user has basic Oracle Flexfield knowledge. This guide is to be
used only to make changes to R2i defined key Flexfields’ value sets. Changing the Flexfield structure
is beyond the scope of this guide. If you decide to change the structure, read “Warning” before
proceeding.

Warning: Make changes to key Flexfield structures, and or definition (value sets) before you acquire
any Flexfield data. Changing the structure once you have acquired any Flexfield data may create data
inconsistencies that could have a significant impact on the behavior of the application or require a
complex conversion program.

Changing the Value Set of an Existing Flexfield Segment:

Warning: Do not change the Key Flexfield structure if you have already entered data.

You can create your own value sets to replace R2i defined value sets (these begin with the designator
R2i _xxx). Remember once you define and save a value set and then immediately re-query it, you can
delete it. However once you use your value set in assigning it to a Flexfield, assigning values to it,
assigning a security rule, or assigning it to a FlexBuilder parameter you cannot delete it.

Tab across to Value Set and select the Value Set you want substituted. An example could be
substituting the Oracle 20 characters Value Set. Save your work.

Return to the first form and select the Freeze Flexfield Definition box and then click on the Compile
button. Oracle Applications then submits two concurrent requests to generate database views of the
Flexfield. Wait for messages indicating that the request is complete. Save your work.

Navigate to Master Item Window and enter a part number with the new number of maximum
characters.
