Consider matrices 𝐴, 𝐵, 𝐶 as listed above, where 𝑎 is the last digit of your UP-ID number, 𝑏
is the sum of all digits of your UP-ID number (if greater than 10, then sum all the digits
again), and 𝑐 is the first digit of your day (number) of birth. Example: if my UP-ID number is
0257916 and I was born on a 29th (first digit is 2), then: 𝑎 = 6, 𝑐 = 2 and
𝑏 = 0 + 2 + 5 + 7 + 9 + 1 + 6 = 30 → 𝑏 = 3 + 0 = 3.

1. Obtain the column space for each matrix

2. Obtain the row space for each matrix
3. Describe what the linear transformation associated with each matrix is doing (where
does each basis land? Is the plane/space squished or extruded?). Draw that result
for matrix 𝐶.
4. For matrix 𝐷 draw both the original and resulting grids, as well as the landing places
for the base vectors.
5. For matrices 𝐴 and 𝐶, calculate where the vector (1, 𝑐, − 1) lands.
6. For matrices 𝐵 and 𝐷, calculate where the vector (𝑎 − 𝑐, 2) lands.
