ANOTHER ‘STUNNER’ BY THE
CREATOR OF SUCH INCREDIBLE
ROUTINES AS “PREDICTION GONE
WILD” AND “TWISTS & TURNS.”
You shows a packet of blue-backed cards. A
deck is shuffled and handed to the spectator
who is asked to cut the deck twice and
deals until he arrives at the first Ace and, in
the process, counts a small packet onto the
table. Let’ say the first Ace he comes to is
the AH. Without any funny moves, the
packet of blue cards is spread, face up
‘among three other face-down cards is an
AH. The other blue-backed cards are
snapped over and are seen to have blank
faces. The spectator counts the cards
previously placed on the table. There are
eight cards in the pile. You turn over the AH
from the prediction packet. It has a red back
‘and written on its back is the number "8".
Easy to do.

This practically self working effect was inspired
by Max Maven's “B’Wave".
EFFECT AND PRESENTATION: The magician
produces a small packet of blue-backed cards
which he places on the table, "Let's assume that
these cards are Aces,” he says. "Well get back to
them in a moment.” The deck is shuffled and
handed to the spectator who is asked to cut the
deck twice. The magician then says, "Now, start-
jing at the place where you cut to in the deck, I
want you to start dealing cards face up until you
come to an ace.” The spectator does this. Let's
say the first Ace he comes to is an AH. The magi-
cian takes the deck back and spreads through the
cards face up as he says, “As you can see the
other three Aces are all in here and you could
have landed on a different Ace depending on
where you cut the deck. But remember, I have
this packet of Aces over here. And I’ actually
made a little prediction in this packet.” Without
any funny moves, the packet of blue cards is
spread, face up among three other face-down
‘ards is an AH. The magician goes on to say, "In
fact I was 50 confident that you'd find the Ace of
Hearts, that these other cards are just for show.”
The other blue-backed cards are snapped over

and are seen to have blank faces. "But that's not
the only prediction I made, Because I had you
deal cards into a pile until you came to an ace.
Please count the cards in the pile. How many are
there?” The spectator counts the cards. There are
‘eight cards in the pile. The magician slowly turns
‘over the AH from the prediction packet. It has 2
red back. Written on its back in bold marker is
“8.
REQUIREMENTS: You need three blue-backed
blank-faced cards and one red-backed Ace (or
other card) as a ‘prediction card.’ These cards are
supplied. You also need to supply a regular deck
of cards. Let's say you have, as a ‘prediction
card,’ the AH. With a thick black marker, write a
large 8 on the back of the card (figure 1).
NOTE: Of course the set of cards you receive
could be different. It could con-
tains three blank-faced cards
and a different card than the
‘Ace (say a King). Use THAT
four-of-a-kind for the routine
(ie., the four Kings). Also the
backs of the cards could be in
opposite colors. One more>]
point: The number on
the back of the red-
backed card can be
changed to your choice
so we leave the back of
the card blank and we
invite you to write the
number on its back.
SET-UP: Place one blue-backed blank card on
the table face down. Place the AH with the "8" on
its back face up on top of it. Place the other two
blue-backed blank cards face down on top of all
(figure 2). Keep these cards in an envelope.
Now grab your normal deck and position the AH
eighth from the top of the deck. Make sure there
are no other Aces among the top seven cards
It’s actually very easy to do this during perform-
‘ance which makes this effect somewhat im-
promptu if you have the other packet with you.
(if you want to predict the number 10 and write
on the back of the card the number 10 instead of
8, the ‘prediction card’ has to be placed tenth
from the top and so on.)
PERFORMANCE: Bring out the packet face down
and well squared and place it on the table
{although I do not feel it necessary, you can.per-
form an Eimsley Count to show four face-down
blue-backed cards. If you decide to do so, place
the last card counted to the bottom).
Shuffle the deck, being sure to retain the
top stock. Hold out the deck to the spectator and
have him perform the Balducci Cut Deeper Force.
To wit: Have him cut a small packet from the top
(make sure he cuts more than eight cards) and
turn it over onto the other cards. Have him cut
the deck deeper - below the face-up cards -
and turn this pile over onto the remaining cards.
‘Turn all of the face-up cards face down and place
them under the deck. From this apparently ran-
dom location in the deck (it’s really just the top
of the deck), ask the spectator to start dealing
‘cards face up until he comes to an Ace. He will,
of course, stop on the AH.
Take the deck from him and spread it so
he can see the other three Aces are in the deck
and emphasize how he could have landed on any
‘Ace depending on where he cut the deck.
Spread the blue packet to show the re-
versed AH. Turn over the other three cards to
show they are blank. Have the spectator count
the packet of cards he dealt off the deck (this in-
Cludes the Ace). He will count eight cards. Turn
over the AH to reveal “8.”
ALTERNATIVE SET-UPS: Although I think the
Balducci Cut Deeper Force is a good method for
accomplishing this effect, I realize that some
people might like to have the spectator freely
shuffle the deck before going into the trick. The
following three set ups allow for this to happen
Alternative Set Up 1: Put the blue prediction
packet inside 2 wallet. Place your stack of eight
red cards face down under the wallet and wrap a
rubber band around all. Place the wallet in your
pocket. To perform, have the deck shuffled by
the spectator. Bring out the packet wallet, being
sure not to expose the packet of cards under it.
Place the wallet on top of the deck, remove the
rubber band, loading the set up onto the deck.
Open the wallet and pull out the prediction
packet. Place the packet on the table and put the
wallet away. Have the spectator start dealing the
cards face up.
Alternative Set Up 2: Grab an indifferent red
card and trim one of the short edges to create a
short card. Make up your eight card stack with
the short card on top. Place the blue prediction
packet on top of all. Wrap a rubber band around
the entire 12 card packet and place it in your
pocket. To perform, have the deck well shuffled
by the spectator. Remove the packet from your
pocket being sure to hide the thickness by keep-
ing the packet in a vertical position. Drop the
packet on the deck and remove the rubber band
Immediately lift off the top four cards. This is
very easily accomplished due to the short card.
Have the spectator start dealing the cards face
up.
Alternative Set Up 3: Place the eight card set-
up in your right pocket. Have the blue prediction
packet in another pocket. To perform, remove
the blue prediction packet and place it on the ta-
ble. Have the deck shuffled by the spectator. As
they do this, casually place your hands in your
pockets. Palm the eight card set up in your right
hand. After the spectator has shuffled the deck,
remove your hands from your pockets. Have
them place the deck on your left hand. Your right
hand then comes over the deck where it deposits
the cards and then squares everything up. Place
the deck on the table. These actions should be
done in a very casual manner. Have the specta-
tor start dealing the cards face up.
