The Native American Experience

Paragraph 1: Write from the perspective of a Native American who has seen American settlers moving
into your land. Use information from video #2, as well as from the website below to genuinely share what
your thoughts, feelings, and experiences are during this time.

The settlers arrived at our location today and engaged in terrible combat with us. We are very heartbroken
that our tribe has to abandon these places. We've all spoken about planning a demonstration to protest
them, and we're going to do that.

Paragraph 2: Write from the perspective of an American settler moving West to find opportunities for
your family. Share the reasoning behind your move, as well as how you feel encountering Native
Americans. Use information from video #1 to add details to your response.

The Native Americans were powerful in our battle today, but we prevailed. We want to grow and spread,
and there are concerted efforts against us, but we can overcome them. We also desire gold for our capital
in the nation we fight and believe in.

Paragraph 3: From the perspective of an outsider, answer the following question which was posed in the
lesson: Do you believe that one culture must be destroyed in order to advance another, or can they coexist?

They can coexist, in my opinion, and simply require a few places where each culture may be itself. There is
always another way; no culture needs to be destroyed in order to promote another. In conclusion,
everyone must respect one another since respect for various cultures is the cornerstone of local harmony.
