The author theorizes that when players are told to perform a free throw without throwing the ball
in a certain spot of the backboard, their performance would be negatively affected due to the
increase in stress or anxiety of the new conditions. The author provides results in their writing
that reveal that anxiety does have a correlation to performance in sports.
