Abstract—This research paper presents a project on ear

recognition system utilizing Convolutional Neural Networks
(CNNs) for individual identification. The project aims to
develop an accurate and efficient system that can identify and
predict the person based on uploaded ear images, providing
either the person's name or label. The project uses the IIT
Delhi ear image dataset, which consists of touchless ear images
collected from students and staff at IIT Delhi, India.

In the first phase of the project, images from the dataset are
preprocessed as required for CNN input. Features are then
extracted using a CNN architecture, and a model is trained on
these features to identify individuals. The project aims to
surpass the reported 97% accuracy of a previous project at IIT
Delhi, which used a Gabler filter method.

In the second phase, a web application or website will be

developed to provide an interface for uploading ear images.
The trained model will be integrated into the application for
real-time ear recognition. The application will also predict
additional attributes such as gender and age range based on
the recognized individual.

Overall, this project aims to develop a robust and accurate ear

recognition system using CNNs, with the potential for further
development into a web-based application for practical use.
