ARTICLE OF FAITH
1: I believe in God, the
Father Almighty, Creator of
heaven and earth.
2: And in Jesus Christ, his only
Son, our Lord.
3: Who was conceived by the
power of the Holy Spirit and born
of the Virgin Mary.
4: He suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died, and
was buried.
5: He descended into hell. The
third day he arose again from the
dead.
6: He ascended into heaven and is
seated at the right hand
of God the Father Almighty.
7: He will come again to judge the
living and the dead.
8: I believe in the Holy Spirit,
9: the holy catholic Church, the
Communion of Saints,
10: the forgiveness of sins,
11: the resurrection of the body,
12: And life everlasting.
EXPLANATION
A: This reminds believers that if they live a good life they
will, after death, be in the presence of God for ever.
B: Jesus came to forgive sins
C: This is a reminder that the Holy spirit is part of the Holy
Trinity (one God three persons: Father, Son and Holy
Spirit) One of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to guide the
Church.
D: This statement reminds believers that after Jesus rose
from the dead (3 days after being crucified by the Roman
soldiers) he spent 40 days on earth ministering to his
disciples before ascending into heaven to be with his
Father in heavan
E: the crucifixion of Jesus was carried out by Roman
soldiers under the rules of the Romans whose leader in
Judea was Pontius Pilate. Jesus was crucified, died and
was buried.
F: This states that Jesus is the Son of God and the Jesus
is divine.
G: This affirms that God exists and God created the
universe.
H: This affirms that Jesus is fully divine and fully human.
I: ‘Hell’ in Hebrew sheol, is the place of the dead. This
article affirms that Jesus rose from the dead.
J: This statement is about the Last Judgement referred to
in Matthew 25:32-33. The just will have eternal life in the
presence of God and the wicked will not be in the
presence of God.
K: This article reminds believers that the Church is more
than the living people of faith here on earth but also
includes all those who have gone before them
(communion of saints)
L: All people will be raised up at
the Last Judgement (all bodies
will resurrect and be reunited with
their souls). This is similar to
Jesus who had a glorified body
after he rose from the dead.
