Thickness Calculations for - 50mm dia PN10 AV Stub Pipe

I Minimum Thickness of steel pipe is calculated as given below: Pipe Details

Nominal Dia 53.00
Shell Thickness in mm (minimum 3mm is
P = internal pressure 1.00 Mpa 3.00
required to form proper weld joint at site)

Design pressure P =1.5* internal pressure 1.50 Mpa Internal Pressure m 100.0

OD excluding cement lining & Guniting

56.00 mm 56.00
thickness
Do = Out Side diameter of steel pipe cylinder in mm

f = Minimum yield stress of the steel (Grade: IS 2062 E 410 BR) 250.00 Mpa Shell ID 50.00

Mean Dia 53.00

II Reference AWWA - M11 (Eq. 4-1)

t = P D/2S

P = Design pressure 1.50 N/mm2

D = OD of the pipe in mm 56.00 mm
S = Allowable Design Stress (75% of Minimum yield Stress) - Case 2 187.50 N/mm2
Thickness of pipe required 0.22 mm
Hence proposed thickness of 3 mm is adequate.

III Minimum Wall Thickness for Dia lesser than 54 inch,1350 mm ID

Reference AWWA Manual, M11 (Eq. 4-2)

Minimum plate or sheet thickness for handling for pipe sizes Lesser
than 54 inch ID is given by
t=D/288
D ( Nominal Dia. in inches) 2.09 inches
Hence Required Plate Thickness (t) 0.01 mm

Thus the Thickness adopted is safe for handling
