Acid rain is rain that is highly acidic because of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and other air
pollutants dissolved in it. Normal rain is slightly acidic, with a pH of 6. Acid rain may have a pH value as
low as 2.8.
Acid rain can severely damage both plant and animal life. Certain lakes, for example, have lost all fish and
plant life because of acid rain.

Acid rain comes from sulfur in coal and oil. When they burn, they make sulfur dioxide (SO2 ). Most
sulfur leaves factory chimneys as the gaseous sulfur dioxide (SO2 ) and most nitrogen are also emitted as
one of the nitrogen oxides (NO or NO2 ), both of which are gasses. The gasses may be dry deposited–
absorbed directly by the land, by lakes or by the surface vegetation. If they are in the atmosphere for
anytime, the gasses will oxidize (gain an oxygen atom) and go into solution as acids. Sulphuric acid (H2
SO4 ) and the nitrogen oxides will become nitric acid (HNO3 ). The acids usually dissolve in cloud
droplets and may travel great distances before being precipitated as acid rain.

Catalysts such as hydrogen peroxide, ozone, and ammonium help promote the formation of acids in
clouds. More ammonium (NH4 ) can be formed when some of the acids are partially neutralized by
airborne ammonia (NH3 ). Acidification increases with the number of active hydrogen (H+) ions
dissolved in acid. Hydrocarbons emitted by, for example, car exhausts will react in sunlight with nitrogen
oxides to produce ozone. Although it is invaluable in the atmosphere, low-level ozone causes respiratory
problems and also hastens the formation of acid rain. When acid rain falls on the ground it dissolves and
liberates heavy metals and aluminum (Al). When it is washed into lakes, aluminum irritates the outer
surfaces of many fish. As acid rain falls or drains into the lake the pH of the lake falls. Forests suffer the
effect of acid rain through damage to leaves, through the loss of vital nutrients, and through the increased
amounts of toxic metals liberated by acid, which damage roots and soil microorganisms

1. The sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides will …. in the air.

Be absorbed directly by the vegetation

Dissolved in the lake water and land
Emit another sulfur gas
Radiate an oxygen atom
Gain an oxygen atom

1. Which of the following is not true about acid rain?

It contains lower pH than the normal rain
It has higher pH than the normal rain
It can damage animal and plant life
It contains dangerous gasses
It endangers water life

Then the central switching station which handles calls in certain given area is directed connected to the
wire-based telephone system. Cellular are pick up by the towers and relayed to another cellular telephone
user or the user of wire-based telephone network.
the towers vary in the capacity and capability to receive signals. Some can receive the signal from short

Leslie Sign writing to you and I just want to say thanks for giving me and all my students
that wonderful grant information on bacteria. I would also like to ask you some questions
about how to protect ourselves from the influenza because last week my students had
influenza although I taught them everything you told me. I was just wondering where it
went wrong.I remember how you told me that we can get bacteria from our hands and
nose and you also told me it’s always important to wash our hands before and after
doing our activities. What I’m writing to point out here is may be when my students were

There is no best way to deal with pest in agriculture. Combining different management
operation is the most effective way to control pests.Firstly, the chemicals in pesticides
may build up as residues in the environment. This reduces the quality of farm
products. As well, pests can become resistant to pesticides gradually. This means that
newer and stronger one has to be developed. Some pesticides affect non target animals
such as fish and bees. This affects the natural balance. To wipe out agricultural pests
completely may be very expensive. Sometimes pest damage cost less than the method
of control. Finally, understanding the ecology of the area helps a lot in pest control.
Natural enemies can be used to control a pest. Pesticides that do not affect the natural
enemies should be chosen.

Smartphones consume more energy than conventional cell phones. It is better for you to use the following tricks: Set
your smartphone to a dark-colored background. The more dark pixels, the less battery it consumes. Don't set your
phone to "auto-brightness". In "auto-brightness", the display will look good, but it is still brighter than you really
need. It is better to set the phone to a "super low brightness" level that is still comfortable for you.Switch off the
"vibrate mode" when it is not really needed. 4. Use original batteries. Fake batteries do not produce maximum
power. They possibly damage electrical components.Set the display screen to be "off" shortly after you use your
phone. There are several options in your smartphone from 15 seconds to 2 minutes screen off. It is highly
recommended to choose 15 or 30 seconds screen off. Turn on the "sleep times" or "blocking mode" whenever you
don't need any internet network. It will switch off the Wi-Fi and mobile data.Update applications you need
frequently. The updated application will work optimally during processing. 8. Turn on the power-saving mode.
