Lesson In this library lesson, students will take this opportunity to further strengthen their reading and
Description comprehension skills. My library lesson will include an introduction to the class, a respectful
and/or time frame where students can look for a book, and a closing remarks. The objective of this

comprehension skills in literacy.

Curriculum

● For the introduction, I will wait till students get settled (drink of water/ bathroom break)

Activities Time Allotment

Learning Activity #1
● For the first learning activity, I will go over my library rules and expectations again
● I will stress that library class is now my class to teach for this week
● I will then have them go look for a book either in class or in the library. They may go
down to the library when they are prepared and find a seat
● Since it is a nice day outside, I will announce we can go outside for the last few minutes,
BUT ONLY IF THEY ARE READING 5:00
● I will remind them that how I will know they are reading is if they are quiet and not
talking.
● Also give a heads up that before we go outside, I will give a verbal assessment and ask
them to tell me one thing about their book.
Rules & Expectations (Go over them if needed)
● Listen to the teacher(s)
● No fooling around
● No throwing things
● Keep your hands to yourself
● Be quiet when its reading time
● Don't disturb the class
● Be respectful to library equipment and fellow classmates
● If you a visiting and not taking the time of library to further your reading skills seriously,
you will be asked to move from your friend groups
§ We will then move into library time, students can go grab a book and sit back down

Learning Activity #2
● For the second learning activity, students will complete and participate in reading
● They will take this time to further their reading and comprehension skills in literature
● I will be walking around to see if students are staying on task
● If there is constant talking/ visiting I will not hesitate this time to move them and stress
again why library (reading) is important- so use this time wisely
● If the weather is nice this afternoon we can go outside for some fresh air, if not just stay in
Closure/Cliffhanger Time Allotment

· To wrap up the lesson, I will have students participate within the verbal assessment. I will ask
each student what their book was about- “tell me one thing you read in your book”. After they 5:00
have responded, I will let them pack up their things and grab any garbage/ empty water bottles
and have them take them on their way out to the designated bins.
