Transferable Skills

1. Communication Skill
Communication skill is one of the transferable skills that I possess. This skill I
inculcated over the years in school and college where I participated in stage plays,
debates and declamations pertaining to social issues and causes. These gave me
an opportunity to express myself and to communicate to the people in the manner
and style they best understand. This skill I would be able to use at my work place
also, as this would help me in communicating and bringing about more clarity and
effectiveness in the task in hand and explain an idea in a logical, orderly and a
concise manner. It would also help me in having a healthy understanding and
coordination amongst the team members.

2. Teamwork
Another important skill I have is an ability to work as a team. As a member of
the school football team I learnt the importance of team work. Individually a players
may be very good but you can only defeat your opponent only when one works
together as a team. The same is true at work place also where an organisational
goal can only be achieved if all members of a team and all sections of the
organisation works in cohesion and as a team by put the good of the project ahead
of personal interest. A good team in an organisation will always be motivated,
capable of supporting its team mates and forthcoming in both giving and receiving
constructive feedback.

3. Problem Solving Skills

Problem solving skills are the techniques that helps in understanding the
causes of problems, overcome short-term crises, create strategies to solve longer-
term problems and turning problems into opportunities. I was able to hone this skill
by my interest in” Brain and logic Puzzle” games. Football also was able to help me
in developing my problem solving skills, as during the game the brains is quickly
multitasking between moving, anticipating a threat from the opponent team,
strategizing, reacting, and performing in a way to achieve a goal.
Values:
Important Values
1. Integrity: Integrity includes valuing honesty, ethics, and consistency in
actions. I believing that maintaining integrity is crucial for building trust and
credibility in both personal and professional relationships which is an
important attribute in for a good team.
2. Continuous Learning: Continuous learning ensures in maintaining high degree
of adaptability and a commitment to staying relevant by acquiring new
knowledge and skills throughout one's career. It is essential for enhancing
ones personal growth and development.
3. Recognition: Appreciating acknowledgment for hard work and achievements
can be a source of motivation to build a healthy team. Recognition fosters a
positive work environment and can contribute to job satisfaction resulting in
overall efficiency of the individual and the team as a whole.
Not so Important Values
1. Material Wealth: Material wealth does not carry very high value compared
to those factors beyond financial gains, such as personal growth, job
satisfaction, or contributing to a greater purpose of the organisation.
2. Popularity: Not prioritizing popularity might indicate a preference for
genuine connections and relationships over superficial recognition. This value
emphasises the quality of relationships is more important rather than the
quantity.
3. Competition: Placing less importance on competition suggest a preference for
cordial relationship, healthy environment and collaboration at work place, and
great teamwork. Valuing shared success and a supportive work environment
is definitely beneficial as compared to cutthroat or highly competitive
atmosphere.

Influence on Future Career Direction

This exercise can guide individuals in selecting careers that align with their core
values. For example, if continuous learning is crucial, a career that offers
opportunities for ongoing education and skill development may be more appealing.
Similarly, if recognition is a significant value, seeking roles where achievements are
acknowledged and appreciated could be a priority.
Understanding one's values provides clarity in decision-making, helping individuals
prioritize aspects of their personal and professional lives that resonate most with
their principles. It can contribute to a more fulfilling and purpose-driven career path.
Connection Between Transferable Skills and Values
There is often a strong connection between transferable skills and values. For
example, if communication skills are identified as a strength, it might align with
values such as collaboration and building positive relationships. Similarly, a focus on
continuous learning might be reflected in strong research and planning skills,
emphasizing adaptability and growth.
Identifying the connection between transferable values and skills can help guide
career decisions. For instance, seeking a profession that allows for continuous
learning and emphasizes integrity might align with a career that requires effective
communication and strong interpersonal skills. The exercise aids in creating a more
holistic understanding of oneself, influencing career choices that align with both
values and skills.
