Unit Map:

This unit connects real-world applications to the math the students are learning. This unit also
includes aspects of art, engineering, and finance.

Real-World Problems: Budgeting and Measuring

Unit Title: Interior Design
Subjects: Math, Engineering, Art
Grade: 7th

Summative Assessment:
Students will be creating a 3D Model of their room design as well as a blueprint.

Formative Assessment:
Students will do a total of 5 journal entries to demonstrate their knowledge and thoughts about
the unit.

Standards:

Math:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.RP.A.1
Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and
other quantities measured in like or different units.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.RP.A.2.C
Represent proportional relationships by equations.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.G.B.6
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two-
and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right
prisms.

Engineering:

NGSS-MS-ETS1-1
Define the criteria and constraints of a design problem with sufficient precision to ensure a
successful solution, taking into account relevant scientific principles and potential impacts on
people and the natural environment that may limit possible solutions.

MS-ETS1-3
Analyze data from tests to determine similarities and differences among several design
solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to
better meet the criteria for success.

Art:

CA2.6-8
Organize, propose, and evaluate artistic ideas, plans, prototypes, and production processes for
media arts productions, considering purposeful intent.

C.B2C.6-8
Demonstrate adaptability using tools and techniques in standard ways in constructing media
artworks.

D.A3.6-8
Reflect on whether personal artwork conveys the intended meaning and revise accordingly.

D.B1.6-8
Analyze similarities and differences associated with preserving and presenting two-dimensional,
three dimensional, and digital artwork

D.B2.6-8
Individually or collaboratively, develop a visual plan for displaying works of art, analyzing exhibit
space, the accessibility for the viewer, and the layout of the exhibit.
