THE TITLE: To Mitigate Plastic Pollution by Implementing a Sustainable Recycling Program at Naggalama SS to Minimize Plastic

Litter.

OBJECTIVE: To reduce plastic litter at Naggalama SS by 50% within the next six months through the implementation of a
comprehensive recycling program, promoting awareness, and establishing efficient collection systems."

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: To address the growing issue of plastic pollution by reducing plastic litter and to create a cleaner and
healthier environment for both students and staff. This initiative will not only enhance the aesthetic /beautiful appeal of the school but
also contribute to the overall well-being of the community. Additionally, the project aligns with global sustainability goals of fostering
a sense of environmental responsibility among the school community.

RESOURCE IDENTIFICATION:

Recycling Bins: Designated bins for plastic collection will be provided.

Educational Materials: Informative materials on the importance of recycling will be developed and distributed.

Collection System: An efficient system for collecting plastics within the school premises will be established

Recycling Facility: An on-site recycling infrastructure will be installed by Partnering with local recycling facilities (or invest in it).

Community Engagement: Resources for awareness campaigns and community involvement will be allocated.

Monitoring and Evaluation Tools: Tools to track progress and measure the impact of the recycling program will be implemented

Training Programs: Training sessions for students and staff on proper recycling practices will be provided.
Collaboration with Stakeholders: Authorities, businesses, and environmental organizations for support will be engaged and
collaboration with local community and Logistical Support to ensure transportation and logistics for collected plastics to recycling
centers.

Maintenance: Resources for the regular maintenance of recycling infrastructure and educational materials will be allocated.

The integration of different subject disciplines in the project on minimizing plastic littering at Naggalama SS involves a
multidisciplinary approach. Various subjects and disciplines that are directly or indirectly involved include:

Environmental Science: Direct involvement in understanding the impact of plastic pollution, designing recycling programs, and
assessing environmental consequences.

Biology: Studying the effects of plastic on ecosystems, wildlife, and biodiversity.

Chemistry: Understanding the chemical properties of plastics and the processes involved in recycling.
Geography: Examining the geographical spread of plastic pollution, its causes, and consequences on local and global scales.

Economics: Analyzing the cost-effectiveness of recycling programs and the potential economic benefits to the community.

Education and Communication: Developing and implementing educational campaigns involve principles of communication and
educational psychology.

Logistics and Supply Chain Management: Managing the collection, transportation, and processing of recycled materials.

Social Studies: Understanding the social impact of plastic pollution on communities and exploring solutions with social relevance.

Mathematics: Analyzing data related to plastic usage, recycling rates, and project outcomes.

Technology and Engineering: Implementing technological solutions for efficient recycling and waste management.

The integration of these disciplines enriches the project by providing a holistic perspective and addressing various aspects of the
plastic pollution issue. It also offers students a well-rounded educational experience that goes beyond the boundaries of individual
subjects.
