Base from our activity, what do you

think is our lesson for today?

It is about a claim ma”am!

How sure are you that it is

connected to the word claim?

They can be used to assert something

as true, or valid provide evidences or
justification for a claim.
These words play a role in
communicating thoughts, opinions, or
information.

Excellent my dear students!

Thank you class, so this words are

connected to our topic and I hope
that you already know their
meaning. For better understanding
lets move on to our next activity.

C. Developmental
Activities
I want you class to read our
1. Presentation of
learning objectives before we
Objectives
proceed with another activity,
please read class. At the end of the lesson, students are
expected to;

a. differentiate the kind of claims

b. identify the kinds of claims from a
written text, and;
c. analyze implicit and explicit
information in a written text.

Is that clear class?

2. Setting of Yes maam!

Please read our class rules class.
CLASS RULES

D. EXPLORE
3. Discussion

For today’s lesson we are going to

tackle about identifying claims
explicit and implicit in a written
text. Are you guys ready?
Yes maam!

Who among you class already

knows the meaning of this claims?

Yes _______? Claim is an arguable statement

meaning it can be contradicted. When
an author or speaker make a claim,
he/she will prove that it is true and it is
correct or use it to defend his/her point
of opinion.

Yes that’s right!

Claims can challenge the belief or

opinions of others, so then require
support in a form of reason and
information, whereas other kinds of
statements do not.

A good claim should be:

1. Arguable and debatable;
2. It has to be specific
3. It should be interesting
4. It should be logical

Types of claims
1. Claim of fact
- It asserts that something has
existed, exists or will never
exist that can be proven
using facts or evidences.
Ex. The Earth revolves around the
Sun.
Any one who can give another
example? Please write it on the
board.

5
NUEVA VIZCAYA STATE UNIVERSITY
Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya

COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION

2. Claim of value
- This are personal judgement
or preferences, based on
certain standards, or
whether something is right
or wrong, good or bad or
something similar.
Ex. Education is the most important
factor in determining an
individual's success in life.
Any one who can give another
example? Please write it on the
board.
3. Claim of policy
- This are statements that
suggest what must be or
must not.
Ex. The government should
implement stricter gun control laws
to reduce gun violence.
Any one who give another
example? Please write it on the
board.

Analyzing claims from a written

text requires “critical reading” it is
a skill that allows to identify
information wich are clearly stated
(explicit) and ideas that are
suggested (implicit) because it will
help you make inferences suggested
on what you have read.

Explicit- to fully and clearly

express something, leaving nothing
implied.
Ex. Knowing how to ride a bicycle
without being able to explain all the
subtle movements and balance
involved.
Implicit- not directly stated but its
impled.
Ex. A recipe for baking a cake that
includes precise measurements and
instructions.

Lets have a game class, wherein we

will going to play ROLL THE
DICE!
I have here a dice and you are
going to pass it to your seat mate
until the music stops, the student
holding it will role the dice,
whatever number it went , you’re
going to answer the questions under Yes ma’am!
that number.
