1.0 INTRODUCTION

Investigation is the systematic process of gathering, analyzing, and interpreting


information to uncover facts, solve problems, or understand complex situations. It is a
crucial aspect of various fields including law enforcement, journalism, scientific
research, corporate governance, and academic inquiry. The objectives of an
investigation can vary depending on the context and purpose, but generally, they
revolve around uncovering facts, solving problems, or understanding complex
situations. A successful investigation requires careful planning, thorough execution, and
adherence to ethical and legal standards. The investigation process typically consists of
several phases, which provide a structured framework for conducting inquiries and
gathering information.

2.0 DEFINITION OF INVESTIGATION

Investigation is a term that means to discover the factor make a legal inquiry. Also,
a fundamental process deeply ingrained in human civilization, serves as a beacon of
truth amidst the fog of uncertainty. Investigation is known as seeking out details like
evidence to find out the truth dan asking question and gathering information. Moreover,
investigation plays an important role in problem solving and decision making,
empowering individuals and organizations to navigate challenges, mitigate risks and
devise effective strategies. In context ranging from business operations to policy
formulation, stakeholders leverage investigation insights to identify root causes,
anticipate consequences and formulate evidence-based solutions. Through systematic
inquiry and empirical analysis, decision-makers gain valuable insights into the
complexities of the issues at hand, enabling them to make informed choices and chart
courses of action aligned with their objectives. Whether unraveling the intricacies of
market dynamics, diagnosing organizational inefficiencies, or assessing geopolitical
risks, investigation provides a roadmap for navigating uncertainty and charting a course
towards success. There are five requirements for a successful investigation and five
phases of investigation.

3.0 OBJECTIVE OF INVESTIGATION

The purpose of investigation is to gather enough evidence to prove or disprove an


allegation, suspicion or another issue. The result of an investigation is conclusion about
what happened and what actions are appropriate in response. There are several
objectives in investigation based on the purpose of the investigation.

First is to detect and investigate the crime scene. This objective is the most
important because the investigator have to identify the factors related to the crime
scene. This could help the investigator know the type of evidences should be collected.
For an example, collecting personal information document of the victim and physical or
not physical evidence. Other than that, to forming an opinion or conclusion and also to
prosecute offender for the crime have been accused. This will be based on the analysis
and assessment the evidence that collected for the court to make decision.
Investigations can be done to identify appropriate solutions or action steps to address
the problem or situation. This involves researching alter natives and cost- effectiveness
analysis to achieve the desired outcome.

Objectives are often related and can be changed according to the case are going to
be investigate. These objectives help to achieve broader goals, such as the disclosure of
the truth, the implementation of justice and the protection of society.

4.0 REQUIREMENT FOR A SUCCESSFUL INVESTIGATION

There are few requirements for a successful investigation. Investigation process is


uncovering facts and information to solve problem. The requirements are important to
solve an investigation process successfully.

Firstly, management commitment is requisite time so that the process is not too long
and also not too short. Too short time process investigation may lead to a unsuccessful
investigation because may not enough evidence to the court punish the suspect or an
innocent person may get punished by the court. In this case, the investigator must
investigate the case patiently and more detail.

Secondly, meaningful objective is also a very important part in process of


successful investigation. Objective is the purpose of the investigation and guideline type
of evidences fact finder can look for. It also used to create a framework or planning so
that the investigation works in order. More, it carefully articulated at the beginning of
process.

Next, a well-conceived strategy is one that planned carefully and aligned with an
organization’s goals and objectives. In this the investigator can mix and match the
method of investigation according to case and structured the process in order so that the
investigator knows what to do in the next step. The process also has to be a flexible
process which allows the changes of the objective in its needed.

Moreover, lawfully executed refers to actions or processes that are carried pout in
accordance with applicable laws and regulations. There are various contexts that can
applied to this term such as government operation. It is a action taken by government
agencies or officials that are conducted within the bounds of applicable laws and
regulation. When a process, such as a contract agreement or court order is executed in
compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Lastly, properly pooled resources and expertise is the effective combination and
utilization of various assets including financial resources, human capital, knowledge,
skills and experience towards a common goal or objective. Effective pooling of
resources and expertise requires clear communication, mutual trust and a shared
understanding of goals involves recognizing and leveraging the unique strengths and
capabilities that each participant brings to the table, ultimately leading to more
impactful outcomes and sustainable solutions.

In conclusion, implement the requirements with much detail will increase the
chances of the investigation effectively achieving its goals and leading to a satisfactory
resolution

5.0 IDENTIFY THE INVOLED INDIVIDUAL AND EVIDENCE FROM THE
SCENARION

5.1 IDENTIFY VICTIM


Victim is an individual that injured, harmed, effected or killed in the crime scene. In
this case study scenario, Emily Johnson, 25-year-old woman is the victim. The case
reported by her roommate. Emily received a threatening message a week before she got
kidnapped after leaving her workplace around 8.00 PM.

5.2 IDENTIFY WITNESS


Witness refers to person who sees a thing that happened or also known attests to the
genuineness of a document or signature by adding their own signature. Moving on to
this case, the witness in this case is Emily’s friends and her family because they have
witness to her daily routine. Moreover, they also know about Emily and her boyfriend
broke up recently. This is leading to possible motives for her disappearance. The
investigator also looked for eyewitness at the neighborhood if there were any unusual
activities that happened around Emily’s apartment.

5.3 IDENTIFY SUSPECT


Suspect could be one or more than that, person which refers to who is believed to be
guilty of a crime. There are two suspects in Emily’s disappearance. The first suspect is
her ex-boyfriend, Jason. He is accused as suspect duo to they currently broke up and the
investigator found the evidence that linking him to the threatening message Emily
received a week before her disappearance but the investigator found out that Jason has
an alibi for the night Emily when disappearance. The second suspect and the prime
suspect is Sarah, Emily’s coworker who harbored resentment because a promotion
Emily received. After more investigation, the investigator discovered that Sarah was
behind the threatening message and also kidnaped Emily.

5.4 IDENTIFY THE EVIDENCES
Evidences is very important in crime cases to prove the suspect is the accused and
make court judgement. Evidences that collected in the case is basic information of
Emily that gathered by talking to her roommate and interviews her family, friends and
colleagues to know about her daily routine and identify the potential leads. Other than
that, reviewing the CCTV footage from the bookstore she works. Moreover, searched
Emily’s apartment and analyze her electronic devices to know her recent interaction, the
investigator discovered a threatening message which is the important evidence of this
case.

6.0 5 PHASES OF INVESTIGATION INVOLED IN THE SCENARIO

6.1 PREPARATION AND PLANNING


Preparation and planning, this where the investigator will set goal and objective of
the investigation. They also will start discussing and planning the flow of the
investigation. Moreover, the investigation team will divide tasks by the leader of the
team. In Emily’s disappearance case, Detective Rodrigues may have done this phase
after he takes charge of this case. The objective of this case is to find Emily and found
out kidnaped her.

6.2 INFORMATION GATHERING AND FACT FINDING


The second is information gathering and fact finding, this where fact finder will
understand daily routine of the victim. For an example in Emily’s case, the fact finder
interviews her family, friend and colleagues to understand her daily routine and
discover that she recently broke up with her boyfriend which linking to her
disappearance. Fact finder also searched Emily’s apartment for more clue about the case
and found an anonymous threatening message a week before her disappearance and the
message was linking to her ex-boyfriend Jason.

6.3 VERIFICATION AND ANALYSIS


This is the important phase where investigator needs to verification and analysis the
evidence or information collected by the fact finder. Such as Jason was suspected who
send the threatening. On the verification process the investigator found out that Jason
has an alibi for the night Emily disappeared.

6.4 DISBURSEMENT OF DISCIPLINARY


This phase intended to uphold the law, restore the situation to the right state, and
provide appropriate correction or punishment to those involved. Here, phase usually
take in the determination and payment of disciplinary or corrective action in an
investigation. The first step is the evaluation of the evidence, the determination of the
adequacy of the evidence, internal correction and equality and justice. In this case, the
discovered new suspect Sarah, co-worker Emily. Sarah was the prime suspect because
she was behind the threatening message because she harbored resentment due to a
promotion received by Emily.

6.5 PREVENTATION AND EDUCTION
Prevention and education refer to uphold the law, restore the situation to the right state, and
provide appropriate correction or punishment to those involved. Here are the steps usually taken
in the determination and payment of disciplinary or corrective action in an investigation. The
first step is the evaluation of the evidence, the determination of the adequacy of the evidence,

equality and justice

7.0 CONCLUSION
Conclusion is investigation plays a very important role in various aspects of life from legal
and justice to management organization and community safety. Here are some if the
investigation interests, law enforcement. Investigations assist in law enforcement by gathering
evidence and information to determine the offense or violation of the law that has occurred. This
ensures that the individual or organization that commits the offense is punished accordingly.
Justice investigations help ensure justice for victims or individuals involved in an incident or
crime. By carefully gathering evidence, the investigation can prove guilt or a person's innocence
fairly and accurately
