1 INTRODUCTION

The Bab field is located in a desert area approximately 160 km southwest of Abu Dhabi city.
The field covers an area of approximately 45 km by 25 km. The main processing facilities
are located around Habshan. The field is sour, with wells to the northeast exhibiting generally
higher H2S content than wells to the southwest. H2S content in the gas produced from the
Habshan-1 reservoir can reach 20%.

Oil production from Bab field started in the 1960s. Bab field facilities were built in two
phases. Phase-1 was commissioned in 1993 and included five processing trains, namely
Trains 1 to 5, in the Central Degassing Station (CDS). Phase-1 also included five remote
degassing stations, RDS-1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Phase-2 which included trains 6 and 7 in the CDS
and one remote degassing station, RDS-6 was commissioned in 2004.

5.4 Order of Precedence

The order of precedence for the technical requirements applies as follows:

 UAE Laws and Regulations;

 ADNOC Code of Practice (for HSE)
 Project Datasheets;
 Project Specifications;
 ADNOC Onshore Standards / Specifications;
 Shell DEP;
 International Codes and Standards.

In case of conflict among any referenced regulations, codes and standards or between
regulations, codes and standards and technical specifications, EPC CONTRACTOR shall
notify COMPANY of any conflict and confirm resolution of the same in accordance with the
order of precedence specified above.

6 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

6.1 Main Scope

The main scope of this Project is to up-grade the existing Closed Drain Systems at BCDS, by
replacing the U/G CS headers and sub-headers installed in Phase 1 with high pressure GRE
headers and sub-headers, replacing the A/G Closed Drain CS collection lines and sub-
headers installed in Phase-1 and Phase-2 with SDSS and Inconel 825 material. The new
installation is to comply with the requirements of the new ADNOC ONSHORE Document No.
11-99-91-0611, BAB Drain Systems Philosophy.

There are two main directions for up-grading BCDS Closed Drain Systems, i.e.:

 The replacement of U/G (buried) & in trenches CS headers and sub-headers with high
pressure (300#) GRE pipes observing the rules of Bab Drain System Philosophy;
 The replacement of A/G Closed Drain sub-headers and drain lines up to individual drain

points with properly sized SDSS / Inconel 825 lines observing the rules of Bab Drain
System Philosophy.

There is another direction for up-grading BCDS Closed Drain Systems installed in phase 2 -
with reduced yield:

 The replacement of U/G GRE portions of headers to comply with required minimum size of
connection;
 Replacement of A/G CS piping up to individual drain points with properly sized SDSS /
Inconel 825 lines observing the rules of Bab Drain System Philosophy.

The new GRE header and sub headers shall be installed in parallel to the existing ones.
EPC CONTRACTOR shall verify & confirm the routes & re-route based on the site conditions
and constructability.

The existing CS headers and sub-headers shall be totally removed from the site after the full
commissioning of the upgraded Closed Drain Systems. Wherever removal of the existing
lines is not feasible, existing lines shall be left redundant with both ends cemented. This shall
subject to COMPANY approval.

All A/G piping will be physically tagged with line numbers. The initially installed Closed Drain
Systems observed a slope of min 1:200 m. The minimum slope required by new BAB Drain
System Philosophy COMPANY Doc No. 11. 99. 91. 0611 is min 1: 100 m for new drain
headers shall be studied on case to case basis and slope of 1:200 shall be accepted for new
drain header of longer run and going very deep inside the plant. In developing its detail
design the EPC CONTRACTOR shall comply with the BAB Drain System Philosophy
requirement.
