4. (a) Find the first derivative of 𝑓(𝑥) = log(𝑥 + 1) from the first principle
(b) Find the gradient of the tangent to the curve 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 − 4𝑥 − 2𝑦 = 0 at point (4,4)
(c) A spherical balloon is blown up so that its volume increases at a constant rate of
1𝑐𝑚3 𝑠 −𝑠 . Find the rate of increase of the radius when the volume is 6𝑐𝑚3

(b) A bag contained 8 marbles of which 3 are red, 5 are blue. One marble is drawn at
random. Its color noted and the marble replaced in the bag. A marble is again drawn
from the bag and its color noted. Find the probability that the marbles drawn will be
i. Red followed by blue
ii. Red and blue in any order of the same color
iii. Draw a tree diagram showing the probabilities of each outcome of the two trials

8. (a) Prove that (1 − cos 𝜃) (1 + cos 𝜃) = sin 𝜃 tan 𝜃
(b) In triangle ABC side 𝐵𝐶 = 5𝑐𝑚 angle 𝐴 = 43° and angle 𝐵 = 61°. Find the length of

(c) Solve the equation 1 − 2𝑠𝑖𝑛2 𝜃 = − cos 𝜃 for the values of 𝜃 from 0° 𝑡𝑜 360°

10. A retail shop received orders from customers A and B for the following food packages.
The package A should contain 20kg beans, 20kg rice and 20kg maize while B contains
only 10kg beans and 30kg of rice. The stock has 340kg beans, 540kg rice and 280kg of
maize. If a unit of package A cost 1200/= Tsh and that of B cost 900/=
a) How many packages should be supplied by the retailer so as to realize maximum
sale?
b) How much stock remains after meeting the orders?
