ESB Networks specify that every house

must have a meter box to house the
electricity meter.
The builder/ house owner must supply
and install an ESB Networks approved
outdoor meter box, which must be
continuously accessible to ESB Networks
and unobstructed by side gates.

 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
General requirements for domestic metering equipment as per latest National Code of Practice:

NOTE: Entry point for customer tails will be accepted at the right-hand side wall of the box.
This entry point shall be DRILLED as close as possible to the bottom right-hand corner.
Only ESB equipment should be fitted in outdoor metering carbinets.
The diagram below shows a typical outdoor metering cabinet.
Where it is possible to ESB equipment into an accessible outdoor location, contact the local
ESB office during the planning stage to identify an alternatively suitable location.
