I had so much fun knitting The Shift cowl, that when the Spinsters told me they were coming
out with a new worsted weight yarn, Dream State, I knew I had to make a Shift Shawl! This su-
per fun shawl has an even larger canvas for color play! This pattern includes a recipe, to make it
all your own, or row by row directions for those who want to play it safe!

FINISHED Wingspan - 65”/165 cm

MEASUREMENTS Center Depth - 31”/79 cm

6 colors of Worsted Weight Yarn, 150 yds each

YARN

Spincycle Yarns - Dream State (150 yds/55 g)

Color A - 1 skein Melancholia
Color B - 1 skein Shades of Earth
Color C - 1 skein Deep Bump
SUGGESTED Color D - 1 skein Salty Dog
YARN Color E - 1 skein Rusted Rainbow
Color F - 1 skein Nostalgia

Size US 8/5 mm (32”/80 cm circular needle, recommended*)

*Cord length is not crucial since this piece is worked flat.
SUGGESTED (Use the needle size you need to achieve gauge.)
NEEDLES

Scissors, tapestry needle and a row counter is recommended

NOTES
o This shawl is worked flat from side to
side, increasing on one edge to achieve an
asymmetrical triangle.
o This shawl utilizes an I-cord edge treat-
ment to keep it looking polished!
o This shawl uses up almost all of the
yardage, so the gauge swatch is worked
flat in stockinette stitch and left unblocked
so that you can unravel it and use it in your
project once you have achieved gauge.
o To give you total freedom for your shawl,
I have included the “recipe” on page 4, so
that you can switch up colors whenever
you feel like it! Prefer to color inside the
lines? I’ve got you covered with line by line
instructions starting on Page 5!

o To block your shawl, soak it in lukewarm
water (with some wool wash or essential
oils, if desired) for about 15 minutes. Once
fully saturated, gently squeeze out the wa-
ter and then roll it up in a clean towel and
press on the towel to remove even more
of the moisture. Spread out your shawl on
a large surface (I prefer blocking mats).
o Helpful tip - don’t block on top of towels!
The towels will remain damp, lengthen-
ing the drying time of your cowl (which
can also lead to a musty smell.) Instead,
if you don’t have blocking mats, I would
place garbage bags (yes, garbage bags)
over a surface you can pin into (carpet,
bed, couch…folded clean/dry towels.) The
garbage bags can’t soak up moisture, so
instead it is forced to evaporate. Voila!

over the top of the last st. Break the yarn
leaving a tail to pull through your last live

Weave in your ends and wet block the
