ECM Learner Portal User Guide

Introduction
This guide is a general reference about the system. It does not provide step-by-step
instructions on how to perform specific tasks within the ECM Learn Portal. As the portal
development continues, some screen displays may be slightly different from those
depicted in this reference.

The ECM Learner Portal

The ECM Learner Portal provides access to online enablement courses, On Demand
eLabs, and role-based sales curriculums. Each sales curriculum guides you through a
series of courses and exams toward completion of the ECM Sales Expertise Programs.
The primary enablement functions of the ECM Learner Portal are:
• To offer individual courses, such as online learning or On Demand eLabs.
• To provide identified curriculums (learning maps), for specific sales roles.
When you log in to the ECM Learner Portal, your login credentials determine the
curriculum you see. If you are in a sales-related role, you see a curriculum designed
specifically for your needs. You can also browse the course catalog and enroll in any
individual online and On Demand eLab learning offerings you choose.
A curriculum may include instructor-led product courses, sales training, exams, or the
review of specific material. To take courses in a face-to-face learning environment, you
must enroll through other IBM learning sites. These sites, such as Learning@IBM and
IBM Training, allow you to locate available instructor-led classes for specific
geographies.
Most courses have associated exams, located on the IBM Certification and Assessment
Services (CAS) testing site. When you are ready to take an exam, the Learner Portal
links you directly to the CAS site. Exam credit is applied to both the ECM Sales
Expertise Program and other ECM certifications, as appropriate.
This diagram shows how the systems work together to meet the complete education
needs of the ECM audience.

ECM Learner Portal User Guide

The ECM Learner Portal curriculum ties all three elements together, allowing employees
and sellers to build their expertise in ECM.
• ECM Learner Portal provides online product courses, online sales training, and
prescribed learning maps for employees, sellers, and technical sellers.
• Learning@IBM offers ECM instructor-led product training, as well as a multitude
of other classroom and online education offerings. The IBM training site provides
classroom product training for external audiences, such as customers and
partners.
• The CAS system provides exams for both product and sales training for both
internal and external audiences.
Find the ECM Learner Portal: Training Track page
The ECM Training Track page is the first stop for online ECM education products, links
to important ECM learning sites, and useful sales tools and information. Other web sites
may direct you to ECM Training Track for access to ECM Learner Portal.
For those who sell ECM solutions, this page offers links to Virtual Customer Visits,
animations, demonstrations, industry briefs, partner solution guides, and other key sales
information.

ECM Learner Portal Sales Curriculums

When you select Enrolled courses, the system displays up to ten curriculums (learning
roadmaps) that guide you through a series of courses.

Nine of the prescribed learning curriculums map directly to the Sale Expertise Program
and include courses designed to build knowledge in the ECM portfolio, supporting
technologies, and major market categories. They are numbered from 1.1 through 3.4 so
that it is easy to map back to the program. The tenth curriculum is for the Subject Matter
Expertise Program (SMEP), designed specifically for customers to build out a center of
excellence on ECM.
The curriculums are mapped to each of the three major categories of the program and
are numbered for easy navigation.

Tips for online courses:
• Many of these courses were developed before FileNet was acquired by IBM.
Although the course slides have been updated with IBM branding and product
names, the narration has not. Ignore references to Knowledge Connection for
exams, related courseware, and FileNet product names.
• Answer the Knowledge Checkpoint questions in order to complete the class.
• A post test is associated with every online course and is available after the
course is launched. Click on the Post-Test activity to launch.
• Source files for the online learning are available in the Materials tab
• Related information and demonstrations are available in the Materials and FAQs
tabs
• To provide feedback on a course, click the Sat Survey (Satisfaction Survey) tab.

ECM On Demand eLabs

On Demand eLabs provide the same content that is delivered in the classroom, but it is
available in a virtual, self-paced environment. You can review the learning materials and
lab work before you start the labs. Most eLab courses are modularized so that each
lesson is independent of other lessons in the course.
After you Enroll in an On Demand eLab, a screen presents an Overview of the course.
This description tells you what content is included in the course, who should take the
course, and what prerequisite courses or knowledge are required.

Overview tab

The Materials tab reveals links to the course materials (Student Guides and lab
exercises), and a Readme first document with important information about this course.

The Readme first document tells you how to use your time most effectively and
provides special logon or sample password information for the lab exercises.

It also includes any instructions that may be unique to this course, including how to start
system processes using the course image (if applicable):

The FAQs, Forum, and Expert tabs are not operational at this time. To complete an
evaluation at the end of the course, click the Sat Survey tab.

Launching an On Demand eLab

Before you launch the course, review the Readme first document and the course
materials. The timer starts when you launch the course. So if you prepare well ahead of
time (before the timer starts), you can spend your system access time more effectively.
Click Launch to start the course.

When you first access the On Demand eLab, five Quick Start pages guide you through
the preparation steps. To print any of the instruction pages for reference, click the Print
option at the upper right of the screen.

The second page tells you how to download the Citrix client:

The third page explains how the timer works and how to extend your session if you need
more time.
Note: Close and Save Progress at the top of the screen applies only to the Quick Start
pages, not the On Demand eLab course. It saves your Quick Start procedure
progress - not the data you enter in the lab exercises.

The fourth page explains how to confirm and close the Quick Start process and launch
the On Demand eLab.

The fifth page provides a checklist of all the startup activities. Click Confirm, Close and

depending on the course.
The data you enter during the lab exercises is
retained during a single session, but is lost when
the session ends.
After you launch the course, a popup window
displays an option to end the course if you want.
The message Extend Your Course Now
displays but is inactive.
When less than one hour of time is left, Extend

ECM Sales Enablement As Scheduled Classroom Offerings

Some classroom offerings are not regularly scheduled until enrollment reaches a
minimum number of students. These are identified in the curriculum, but you may need
to wait until the course is offered.
When you enroll, you may see the following screen. The class is scheduled through
EnableNow once the class reaches its minimum enrollment. When you click here in the
Register box, you are directed to send an email to fnregna@us.ibm.com.

Once the course is scheduled, you receive an email with registration instructions. IBM
employees register for the course in EnableNow:

IBM ECM Early Education courses

As part of the IBM ECM product release strategy, information is captured at various
points in the release cycle and made available to those who need to sell, support, or
train others on the new features and products. For example, recorded presentations
from Development and Product Marketing target four audiences and aspects of a new
release:
• Product Sales Training (PST)
• Product Architect Training (PAT)
• Product Implementation Training (PIT)
• Product Maintenance Training (PMT)
Collectively they are known as PxTs. The recordings may include demonstrations of
installations and upgrades, as appropriate for the release.
In addition, other recorded field enablement sessions about product roadmaps,
functionality, target markets, and general sales updates are available for replay. These
are not currently part of a curriculum and you must search for and enroll in them
individually. Upon completion of a replay, make sure to mark the course as complete.
External Links
Employees will be directed to review materials that are deemed necessary to reinforce
knowledge about that learning category, such as the Java example below. Once the
information is reviewed, you can mark the course complete. At this time, there are no
exams associated with informational offerings.

ECM Exams
Knowledge assessment is done through the Certification Assessment Services (CAS)
system. Here are explanations of several ways you can take an ECM assessment.
Accessing Exams as part of the Curriculum
Post-tests are identified as part the defined curriculum. Upon completion of a course, the
next activity is to take the post-test, as shown in this illustration. The system identifies
you as an employee, partner or customer and then launches the appropriate CAS site
for sign-in.

Employee Sign In
The system links to: http://cas.atlanta.ibm.com/filenet, the w3 CAS site: Employees are
directed to the w3 CAS site for sign in:

Customer & Partner Sign In

The system links to the external CAS site for Customers and Business Partners at:
http://www.ibm.com/services/weblectures/cas/ibm/filenet.

Taking an Exam
After you sign in, the appropriate exam automatically launches from the curriculum. The
CAS system prompts you if you have already passed the exam. In that case, you can
cancel or retake the test.

If you have not passed the exam, the system automatically launches it for you. You have
90 minutes to complete the exam. Once you have answered all the questions, submit
the test. Although the results automatically display on the screen, there is a delay before
your assessment score is reflected in the Learner Portal.

Finding Exams from within the Learner Portal

You can also take an exam outside a curriculum as part of your professional
development. You are automatically enrolled in course 03 ECM Exams. When launched,
it lists all of the available ECM exams. Each exam number is linked to the CAS site so
that you can easily locate and take the assessment. If you mark 03 ECM Exams as
complete, it appears in the Completed courses section for future reference. Otherwise, it
remains in My enrolled courses for easy access.

Finding Exams outside the Learner Portal

You can also go directly to the CAS site take ECM assessments. Customer and
business partners can access CAS through this link:
