Preface
This manual will help you to correctly use your multi standard power distributor.
We recommend to read this instruction carefully before using your power distributor. In particular, pay atten-
tion to the following paragraph „How to ensure safety“ which contains important information regarding your
safety.
The trouble shooting guide which is part of the manual is to allow you to correct minor operating troubles
yourself.
Instructions marked with are warnings of danger. To ensure that neither you nor any other person or in-
spected object suffer any damage during the operation of your power distributor, you urgently have to read
and strictly observe these instructions!
Smiths Heimann assumes no liability for damages caused by the non-compliance with these instructions or
instructions given in another paragraph of this manual.
Instructions marked with give further important information and facilitate the use of your power distribu-
tor.
In case of questions referring to this instruction, please contact the editorial department:

Operate and store the power distributor in closed rooms only! The unit’s operating site must be pro-
a tected against heavy dirt (dust, waste gas)!
In longer operation terms the housing of the power distributor can warm up. Have appropriate ope-
a rating stops and ensure that no heat-sensitive objects are stored around the power distributor!
a Inside the power distributor there are no parts to be operated or serviced by the user! The screwed
cover may only be removed by qualified service technicians!
a Keep away liquids as well as dirty objects from your power distributor!
a You can clean the housing by means of a soft, slightly damp cloth and a gentle cleaner. Do not use
chemical cleaning agents because they might damage the unit’s surface and/or labels!
Your power distributor is equipped with the following controls and indicators:
Front view
Rear view
➀ On this American type of outlet you inspect electric devices with 110/120 V alternating voltage, 10 A
of maximum current input (equals max. 1.1 kW) and 50 Hz mains frequency.
The mains frequency in most European countries is 50 Hz. In the USA by contrast, the mains
i frequency is 60 Hz. The motors of devices with a 60 Hz mains frequency, if containing such,
may run slower. In a short-time use the devices to be tested can also be safely operated with
50 Hz.
➁ On this British type of outlet you inspect electric devices with 230 V alternating voltage, 10 A of ma-
ximum current input (equals max. 2.3 kW) and 50 Hz mains frequency.
➂ On this German type of outlet you inspect electric devices with 230 V alternating voltage, 10 A of
maximum current input (equals max. 2.3 kW) and 50 Hz mains frequency.
➃ On this French type of outlet you inspect electric devices with 230 V alternating voltage, 10 A of ma-
ximum current input (equals max. 2.3 kW) and 50 Hz mains frequency.
➅ To switch on the power distributor, press the button. The indication of the button shows that the
power distributor is switched on and ready for operation. After the switch-on you can inspect one or
several devices in succession in different voltage ranges for approx. 3 minutes. You can not extend
the preset time interval by repeated actuating of the button.
➆ The safety cutouts release for single voltage ranges if a short-circuit or other errors have occurred.
The fuses (10 A) are then pushed outside. After the error is corrected, you have to reset the safety
cutouts by pushing the fuse buttons back. The fuses on the front side are divided in the following
two ranges:
The upper one fuses the outlet of the rotary switch step 1.
The lower one fuses the outlet of the rotary switch steps 2 to 4.
The main fuse on the back side fuses the mains input voltage.
➇ The type plate displays the unit type, item number as well as the test date. In case of faults you have
to give these information.
In general, your power distributor will be fixed to a steady location (e.g. under a table) and connected to a mains
outlet by a technician carrying out the installation. Adhere to the following instructions if you do the connection
yourself.
e If the unit has already been connected and you want to disconnect it, make sure in advance that the unit
has been switched off completely, i.e. the indicator of the button may not light up any more!
e Before connecting the unit to the mains, adhere to the following instructions.
e
Be absolutely sure that the local mains voltage is 230 V alternating voltage and the fusing of
a the provided mains outlet meets at least 16 A!
e
a The supply cable should not be pulled over sharp edges! Keep the cable dry and protect it
against heat, oil and grease!
e
a Lay the mains cable in such a way that people do not step on or trip over cables!
e Having successfully checked the latter, plug in the mains cable at the unit and the appropriate outlet.
a Under
device to be inspected is designed. You find this no circumstances you may infer the
information on the corresponding type plate of required operating voltage of the electrical
the device to be inspected (if available). device from the shape of the plug!
e Check the electric device to be inspected if a preset voltage (e.g. on an electric shaver) corresponds to the
mains voltage of the power distributor. If not, adjust the correct mains voltage on the device to be inspec-
ted.
e Choose the corresponding outlet of the power distributor for the device to be inspected by means of the
4-step rotary switch.
The mains frequency in most European countries is 50 Hz. In the USA by contrast, the mains frequen-
i cy is 60 Hz. The motors of devices with a 60 Hz mains frequency, if containing such, may run slower.
In a short-time use the devices to be inspected can also be safely operated with 50 Hz.
e While your power distributor is operating, you can inspect further devices as described above.
After the preset time interval your power distributor switches off even during an inspection. Press
i the button again to turn on the power distributor to continue the inspection.

The device to be inspected does not work. e Check if the safety cutouts on the front side of
the power distributor have released. Push back
the released cutouts. See to it that you set the
adjustable voltage range of the device to be in-
spected to the correct input voltage.

If any other errors occur, please ask your service outstation or Smiths Heimann for corrective maintenance.
To sectionalize faults you should transmit a detailed description of the faults as well as the data of the type
plate.
