Find a research article that discusses adolescent marijuana use and outcomes.

Briefly summarize
the article and discuss at least two biopsychosocial factors discussed and how these are related to
adolescent marijuana use.

This research article investigates the consequences linked to the use of marijuana and
alcohol throughout adolescence among young people living in metropolitan areas. The study
included a group of 678 children living in metropolitan areas, with a majority being of Black
ethnicity, and their ages ranging from 6 to 25 years old. The research revealed that engaging in
frequent and simultaneous use of marijuana and alcohol throughout adolescence is linked to the
most detrimental consequences. Combining moderate doses of alcohol with marijuana usage
resulted in greater adverse consequences compared to alcohol consumption alone.

The research article examines alcohol-related inequities encountered by young Black

Americans in the US and the social and behavioral effects of regular marijuana use in
adolescence. It also examines the health risks of recreational cannabis and the link between
adolescent alcohol consumption and adult violence. Studies suggest that arrest and legal
penalties may modify the effects of binge drinking in adolescents on early adult outcomes, which
may influence future behavior. A detailed study of the effects of late-adolescent alcohol use and
cannabis use on academic performance has also been conducted. The overrepresentation of
African Americans in drug prisons, the effects of drug and alcohol usage, and the effects of
adolescent cannabis use on academic performance are all discussed. The work also discusses
racial inequities in alcohol, marijuana, and co-occurring disorders and their effects on public
health and socioeconomic concerns.

The biopsychosocial factors investigated in this research article include poor

environmental circumstances, such as inadequate living situations. In addition, psychological
stressors, including instances of discrimination, racism, and social stress, are also taken into
account. These elements possess the capacity to influence both mental and physical well-being.
Adolescent marijuana usage is associated with living in impoverished situations, since
individuals in such circumstances are more prone to engaging in risky behaviors owing to their
limited financial resources and increased accessibility to the substance. Moreover, the strain of
experiencing discrimination prompts individuals to resort to medication to manage their distress.
