ICT Infrastructure information

1. Executive summary

The ICT infrastructure in Beles HEPP currently has Hardware setups, Fiber optics cables; LAN
connectivity and Ethio telecom provided internet connectivity. The current internet connection isn’t
working due to Beles Bahir-Dar 400 KV line and fiber optics problems. There must be additional ICT
hardware and upgrading the LAN and internet configuration issues in other area like clinic power house
store area and VATech store area needs the internet infrastructure structures.

2. Current ICT infrastructure AREAS

2.1. Office Area Existing Hardware and software
Basically the Internet Access is starting Housing compound control building. From there is Media
converter that convert fiber to Coaxial cable. In this area there are:-
10 Personal Computer (Desktop) from these computers Four (4) of them are full fill the
recommendation specification for using SAP application
2 Laptop,
1 Server for SAP ,
4 Printer & 2 scanners
3 Wireless access point two for office and one for club house
(1) One 24 Port & Four (4) 8 Port Switch,
1 Router,
2.2. Power House Area
3 personal desktop and
One printer for maintenance existing PM work used and report and OM manual and
drawing reading used.
1 computer for store data usage
Remark: In the SWY area there is an internet access and try to possible to access the internet at power
house area but the entire available computer is not capacity to working SAP PM. We need additional
ICT infrastructure for maintenance and store area like VATech plant big store location.
3. Overview of the current LAN architecture
In office area all computer is connected to this 24 port D-link switch and there is one 8 port internet
switch is used to meeting hale room and employee personal laptop usages. The internet access is also
elongated to employee club house for employee personal pc and wireless access usage.
There is 5 MB Data system is also available at office area for previous AGRESO financial usage.
Currently it is working for SAP system and it is used as an alternative for SAP system redundancy.
4. Internet connectivity specification

The internet speed was near to 28Mbps.

5. Additional ICT infrastructure needs

Identify gaps in the current infrastructure for sap PM

Resource or hardware (Desktop computers, Laptop and Switches) shortage;

For New ICT infrastructure we need all accessories like computer; printer; Hub switch; coaxial
cables and other internet accessories better to provided.
Outdated hardware models (some Desktops, laptop and routers may better to update)
The data connectivity for other locations is not installed like clinic; power house maintenance
team office; power plant store location areas need infrastructures.
The firewall is not configured
6. LAN Assessment

Evaluate the current LAN Performance

Not bad! Need new installation for other offices.

7. Internet Connectivity
Bandwidth Assessment Needs to be upgraded
Availability Assessment Adequate
Propose strategies for increased availability: Creating good communication and
agreement with Ethio telecom for fast response time
8. Recommendation and justification
Clearly state each recommendation
Increase the band width;
Supply necessary hardware and spare parts that meets the demand;
The EEP have to see other communication option if the internet may failed like us for
long period of times;
Reconfigure computer networks to make them in the same domain;
Replace outdated hardware; software.
Upgrade data connectivity line to fiber optic;
 Configure the firewall for protection;
The update Antiviruses for office computers to protect malware and viruses;
Highlight benefits and potential risks

Benefits:

It facilitates the plant technical and nontechnical operations for easily create training in
SAP system for employee.
Employee can access new technology about the daily work activity.

Potential risk:

Financial burden on the company.

May be having a Security issue.
9. Conclusion

Key point summary

Additional Computers are needed to ease the implementation of SAP

Some of the office need new infrastructures of ICT(clinic; power house store ; maintenance
office SAP PM; for plant big store @ VATECH store)
Configuration of fire wall;

Emphasize the necessity and advantage of proposed changes

The proposed solution will help the plant in implementing SAP.

All respective staff members using SAP must own their own Desktop computer specially to
facilitate work easily.
