: to be able to try and discuss using Cornell notes
The importance of
taking notes
As you research you will need to
take notes of important points,
information and facts that you
come across

You do not need to copy out large

sections of text – it is a waste of
your time and energy

Cornell notes is a highly effective

and efficient way of organizing
your research notes
As I watched the video I
After my note taking I read
took notes. In the large box.
through my notes and identified
Questions that my notes
answered. I used abbreviations:
CO2 = Carbon dioxide
It doesn’t have to be questions, Temp = temperature
it can be sub-headings: l/w = longwave energy
Causes = nineteenth century
Evidence
Effects = Increase
Atmos = atmosphere

Then I summarized my
notes at the bottom.

Plagiarism is….
• Copy and paste from the internet
• Copying sections in your research and then rewriting them in your
final work
• Not putting something you read or used in your references

Even if by accident, or being forgetful, plagiarism is using someone

else's work and using it as your own. This is cheating and, if caught,
means you can fail.
At IG, A Level or university it means you don’t get the qualification or
made to leave the course.
Harvard referencing is a standard method
to reference every book, article or
website that you look at. Even if you do
not quote it, or refer to it at all, you need
to acknowledge that you used it. The
point is that someone should be able to
look at your references and recreate your
work exactly.
Task: Romulus and Remus
• Divide a page to look like the template for taking Cornell style notes
(you may need to do this twice)
• Read the article on Romulus and Remus and make Cornell notes.

When you are done compare your notes with your neighbours.
