Answer the following questions
2. No. Interphase is the longest part of the cell cycle. This is when the cell grows and copies its
DNA before entering mitosis. During mitosis, chromosomes line up, separate, and move into
new daughter cells.
4. Prophase: chromosomes condense, nuclear membrane ruptures, and mitotic spindle fibers
form. Metaphase: The replicated chromosomes line up in the center of the cell. Anaphase: The
chromosomes separate and the cell lengthens. Telophase: The nuclear membranas collapse and
the new cell membrane emerges.
5. It is important because chromatin allows DNA to fit into the nucleus of the cell and makes
possible many important celular processes, such as replication, transcription, DNA repair,
genetic recombination, and cell divsion.
6. The G1 checkpoint The G2 checkpoint The spindle checkpoint is located in the middle of the
phase, more specifically at the metaphase/anaphase transition.
7. Cell differentiation causes dramatic changes in size, shape, membrane potential, metabolic
activity, and responses to signals. The characteristics of a specialized or differentiated cell
include: Specific shape, which helps it fulfill its function.
