A Job Well Done

Government, a hero of the pandemic? The Covid-19 pandemic has arisen as one of the most pressing worldwide
concerns in recent history. Since its discovery in late 2019, the pandemic has had far-reaching and deep consequences
for society, economy, and public health globally. But in the face of an unprecedented global crisis, our government has
exhibited incredible resilience, strategic preparation, and unshakable dedication to protecting its citizens' health and
well-being throughout the pandemic.

During a pandemic, governments play an important role in providing necessary services and adopting policies to
reduce the crisis's impact on public health and the general well-being of their inhabitants. According to Philippines
News Agencies Acting Presidential Spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles made this remark after the
Bloomberg Covid-19 Resilience Ranking for November showed that the Philippines remains at the bottom of a list of
53 countries. “Our economic team will continue to put a greater emphasis on our country-specific conditions or
context in order to craft policies that are more responsive to our people’s needs and the requisites of economic
recovery,” Nograles said in a press statement.

Furthermore, the government also provide some budgets for the coping mechanism of the people in the time of
pandemic especially on some lockdown area of the country. They make sure that the community received some food
and their needs during lockdown. In a statement, the agency said provisions of the 2022 budget, which it said
underwent consultations with agencies, include the procurement of COVID-19 testing kits, hiring of medical
frontliners, establishment of the Virology Institute of the Philippines, and the continuous implementation of health
programs under the Universal Health Care law.

Governments have come under fire for their poor communication, which includes conflicting pronouncements,
inconsistent messaging, and a lack of openness. The public's mistrust and non-adherence to health recommendations
might have been influenced by inadequate communication. However, governments supported research and
development initiatives aimed at developing efficient medical treatments and vaccinations by actively collaborating
with the scientific community.

In conclusion, even if the COVID-19 pandemic has presented a number of challenges and complications, it is
important to acknowledge the times when governments have excelled in their reaction to the situation. Key markers
of governmental performance during this difficult period include prompt measure implementation, successful
vaccination rollouts, international collaboration, and investments in public health infrastructure. We can all work
together to create a more resilient and crisis-ready global community by taking lessons from successful instances.
