Kawah Ijen

Ijen Crater is a tourist attraction located in Banyuwangi, precisely the

nature reserve area of Ijen Bondowoso Tourism Park, East Java.
Mount Ijen Crater is one of the active volcanoes in East Java. With an
altitude of 2779 meters above sea level, a depth of 200 meters and the
area of Ijen Crater is around 5466 hectares and Ijen Crater is one of
the largest craters in the world.

The origin of the emergence or formation of Ijen Crater comes from

the ancient Mount Ijen about 300,000 years ago. While Ijen Crater
itself was formed about 70,000 years ago there used to be only one
large mountain area covering 4 regencies today, namely Banyuwangi,
Bondowoso, Situbondo and Jember.

Access to this area is quite adequate, because it is already on the

asphalt, visitors can use public transportation or private vehicles. To
reach the top of Ijen Crater, visitors must walk as far as 3 km for
approximately 1.5-2 hours. Ijen crater has a panorama around with a
lake that is toska green and the temperature is quite cold.

The beauty of the ijen crater is not only seen from the crater and the
mountain, because the marbles of the crater are spread out with
manisrejo (cantiqi) trees where the leaves are reddish. Besides that in
this crater there is also a lot of liquid sulfur mining because molten
shells can be made for crafts printed in various unique shapes.

It is not surprising that Ijen Crater is a tourist destination both local

and foreign tourists. even a godsend for the local community because
of the sulfur content on this mountain. Most of the locals depended on
their lives as sulfur miners. And don't forget when it reaches the lip of
the crater, it is recommended to use a mask because Ijen Crater lake
has a strong sulfur content, so it can poison the body if you inhale it
too much.
