Importance of Social Pharmacy Education in Libyan Pharmacy Schools:

Perspectives from Pharmacists

This research paper, titled "Importance of social pharmacy education in Libyan

pharmacy schools: Perspectives from pharmacy practitioners," investigates the views of
Libyan pharmacists on incorporating social pharmacy education into their academic
curriculum. The authors, Osman S. Abrika, Mohamed A. Hassali, and Abdelrahman A.
Abduelkarem, conducted qualitative research through interviews with ten practicing
pharmacists in Libya.

The focus of the research was to understand the pharmacists' perceptions of social
pharmacy, its potential benefits for their profession, and its potential role within the
educational framework. The findings revealed a generally positive sentiment among the
interviewed pharmacists regarding social pharmacy education. The majority of
participants expressed strong support for its inclusion in the curriculum, believing that it
could equip them with valuable skills and knowledge. These skills, in turn, could lead to
improved communication and interaction with patients, ultimately enhancing the quality
of pharmaceutical care provided.

This study highlights the positive perception of social pharmacy education among
Libyan pharmacists and its potential to significantly impact the quality of patient care.
The findings suggest the need for further exploration and potential implementation of
social pharmacy education within the Libyan pharmacy education system. This could
involve developing curriculum frameworks, identifying qualified educators, and gaining
broader institutional support to successfully integrate social pharmacy into the
educational landscape for future pharmacists in Libya. Additionally, these findings could
have broader implications for other countries considering incorporating social pharmacy
education into their pharmacy curriculums.
