Four Factors

● Leader - You must have an honest understanding of who you are, what you know, and what you
can do. You must convince your followers that you are worthy to follow.
● Follower - You must know your people. Good understanding of human nature, such as needs and
motivation.
● Communication - do not ask them of the things that you yourself is not willing to do. Bad
communication harm the relation
● Situation - use of judgment to decide the best course of action and the leadership style needed.
What we do in one situation will not always work in another.

Leadership Styles
Authoritarian

● makes decision without reference to anyone


● high degree of dependancy to the leader
● can create demotivation
● maybe valauble in some that decision has to be made quickly and decisively

Democratic

● encourages decision making from different perspectives


● Consultative - decisions are being consulted before final decision making
● Persuasive - leaders makes decision and persuade others

Types of Theories
Trait Theory
• Leaders are born with inherent physiological and personality traits.

● height
● intelligence
● academic
● achievements

Behavioral Theory
• Ohio state studies focused on task and social behavior of leaders.

● Initiating Structure
● Consideration

Role Theory
• people will act within the roles they adapt.

Contingency Theory
• a leader who is very successful at one point and time may be unsuccessful in another situation.

Situational Theory
• leaders should change their style depending on the maturity of people.

● to ensure effectiveness and sustainability leaders need to focus their attention on aligning their
people

Recognizing whether you are an effective leader requires self-awareness, feedback from others, and a
clear understanding of the outcomes and impact of your leadership.
