Weddings are getting bigger and more expensive. What is the reason for this?

Is it
a positive or negative development?

It is true that extravagant weddings are gaining more popularity nowadays amongst
soon-to-be wedded couples. Several reasons could be cited for this phenomenon and I
believe that this is a negative development. = Expensive weddings are becoming
increasingly fashionable amongst soon-to-be married couples. This occurrence could be
attributed to a variety of factors, and I believe it is a harmful trend.

To begin with, the decision to throw expensive celebrations when getting married stems
from both personal desire and social pressure = the inclination to conduct lavish
wedding celebrations derives from both personal desire and social pressure. Firstly,
many families, especially those with high status, consider weddings as a display of
wealth and influence.= many families, particularly those of high class, regard weddings
as a display of riches and influence. The prime example can be found in Asian
countries/cultures, where it is customary for parents to givepresent the young couples
with cars, houses and gold. Historically, these presents were given to help newlyweds
get started in their married livesthese gifts are a way to assist the newlyweds in their
married life; however, in recent years this custom has changed/evolved into a show- off
competition. Furthermore, wedding planning has become/grown into a multimillion-dollar
industry. The soon-to-be brides are bombarded with numerous options and expensive
events when they seek wedding consultants = When brides-to-be seek wedding
advisers, they are overwhelmed with various options and pricey events..

Therefore, I am convinced that this trend would do more harm than good because of its
negative impacts on people, society and environment. As newly married life
necessitates a lot of monetary resources, if young couples overspend on their wedding
party without, they may even face destitution and debts= Because newlywed life
necessitates a lot of monetary resources, young couples who overspend on their
wedding celebration may suffer destitution and indebtedness. In addition, extravagant
parties create lots of trash, which would in turn harm the environment. For example,
currently it is quite trendy to have firework shows at wedding celebrations, which leads to
air and noise pollution.
Hosting multiple weddings at various destinations, another popular activity, produces
traveling carbon footprints and may cause harm to natural habitat.

In conclusion, people tend to pour a lot of money into nuptial ceremonies because of
egoistic desires and social pressure. I believe that this is a negative trend as it causes
multiple consequences to both individuals and society. = This, I believe, is a detrimental
trend because it has various ramifications for both individuals and society.
