NARRATIVE REPORT ON MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS SEMINAR

Mental health is when a person is aware of their capabilities, can manage everyday
stresses effectively, work efficiently, and participate positively in society. Having good mental
health is crucial for overall health and happiness, allowing individuals to navigate life’s obstacles,
form healthy relationships, and actively contribute to the community. However, there are many
cases of suicide here in the Philippines and some of them are young people who prefer to commit
suicide rather than face the problem, also because of the excessive depression that they can no
longer handle. There are also some cases of suicide among students studying in this school. This
condition is a proof that several people especially young ones, do not have awareness about
mental health.

In connection to this, National Service Training Program Organization organized a Mental

Health Awareness seminar on April 13, 2024 at San Jose Community College. The orientation
started with a prayer and followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Before the seminar, one
of the NSTP officer, informed the students about the house rules that they must follow. After that,
the guest speaker Ms. Janine B. Volante, a Licensed Psychometrician, talked about stress
management. It was followed by giving of a valuable message from the College Administrator,
Atty. Randy B. Blanza. He wholeheartedly advise students to do not let their personal problems
kill them. Finally, a Counselor from Tabaco National High School, Mrs. Desiree Boncacas, shared
her expertise and knowledge on combating mental health issues.

This second day seminar of mental health awareness were participated by first year
education department students. The seminar was indeed a success and full of lessons to be
remembered.
