DEFINITION OF TERMS
Radiology = study and use of radiant energy including Roentgen
rays, radium and radioactive isotopes as applied to medicine and dentistry.

Roentgenology is the study and use of Roentgen rays as applied to medicine


and dentistry.

Radiography is the production of a photographic image of an object


through the use of X-rays.

Radiation is the process of transfer of energy from one point to another in


the form of electromagnetic waves, e.g. light, radio waves, X-rays,.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
Matter - is anything that occupies space has mass. It can exist in
three states: solid, liquid and gas.

Atom - fundamental unit an element. It has central nucleus of


protons and neutrons and negatively charged electrons orbiting
around it.

Atomic number is the distinguishing number of protons in the


nucleus of an atom. At rest position, number of electrons =
number of protons.

Atomic mass number denotes the total number of protons and


neutrons, in the nucleus.
