The graph below gives information about U.S.

government spending on research between

1980 and 2008.

The graph line presents data about the amount of money the U.S. government spent on health, space,
energy, general science and other research between 1980 and 2008.

Overall, spending on research increased gradually in all fields and even a sharp increase was observed in
the amount of money spent on health research, except other research.

In 1980, the expenditure of health and other investigations were almost same, $10 million and this
amount was the most in that time, almost four times more than the amount of money for general
science research. Expenditure of energy and other research were approximately half of health’s. Over
the following 12 years almost no increase in research spending in any field outside of health.

In 2000, the research expenses of General science reached that of other, but later it could not overtake
it. By 2008, the expenditure of other research had decreased to that of general science and both were
exactly $5 million. The amount of money spent on space and energy research only increased around $3-
4 million, while expenditure of health research almost making doubling from its starting amount in this
graph.
