The digital Self

B. ACTIVITY: Quickie Survey

Answer the following survey questions:
What are your reasons /purpose for going online?
At this present year my reasons for going online is for me to be keep
updated to my classes specially by using messenger, I do chat and stay
connected with my classes by chatting/asking my classmates, and if we don’t
have class I usually involve I mean I used other social media apps for me to
be entertain and to be connected with my friends and families and also to
discover/made new friends.

What network site/s do you usually visit? Why?

Well to be honest, I usually visit the Google site because I usually had a
hard times in doing some of my activities and assignments, and sometimes
some of the teachers’ where asking us to research this and that. I do use the
Google site as in always everyday because I sometimes had a lot of
questions/curiosity that needs to be answered right away that’s why I ask the
answer to the Google and that’s the reason why I usually visit the Google site.

How often do you stay online?

For me, as I estimated I stay online for about 5 to 8 hours a day.

If you open your FB account, do you keep your identity public or private?
Why?
Well as for me when I open my FB account I usually keep my identity
publicly because I wanted to be notified and to be updated with my friends
and families.

What would be the possible “benefits” and “risks” if your online profile is made
public?
Well for me I think the possible benefits in making your profile in public are
the following:
-Opportunities to meet people around the world with common
interests and to explore those interests with them through making your
profile publicly.
-Opportunities to make personal friendships and likely relationships
with compatible people worldwide
-Long-distance personal contact cost savings: social media networks
and instant messaging systems are much easier to use than the
telephone, with messages normally free of charge, so it has never been
more affordable to stay in touch with distant relatives and acquaintances,
and even those a few miles down the road.
And these are the following risk in making your profile in public:
-You can be easily stalked by malign or dangerous obsessive person
-You can be deceive easily cause you are open I mean you are
putting your profile publicly
-prone to cyberbullying and might damaged your reputation as an
individual
C. ANALYSIS:
What have you learned from the activity? Did you compare yourself from the
readings you have learned?
I’ve learned a lot, it helps me to realize what are the things that I usually
do in terms of using gadgets with the internet, I’ve realized where I usually go
just like using Google sites and social media apps where it helps me to
prevent boredom and also to discover and stay connected with my friends and
family. Yes I do compare.

F. APPLICATION/ASSESSMENT
Make a reflection paper on who are you in online identity.

In this generation where people are surrounded of different kinds of

technologies that helps us ease our life especially in communicating and
expressing ourselves to other people where it helps us positively but despite
of its good side there could be negative or bad side in using technology and
there is the online identity goes off. So what is online identity? Well online
identity provides platforms for us people to express our feelings and enable us
to show our different sides of our personalities. It helps people to understand
us more holistically. It helps to shape people's interpersonal perception to us.
Well first of all before this pandemic start I was a kind of person who can live
normally without exposing myself in social media apps for about 1 to 2 months
but now due to this pandemic I was positively and negatively affected
because I was now expose in using these trend things that Millennials does a
lot. I was now addicted in using social media apps where it helps me to kill
boredom which is the positive side of it but the negative side of it is that I
usually use my leisure time in using those different kinds of social media apps
instead of cleaning and finishing my assigned house chores and there’s a
time where I got scolded by my mom for not doing and finishing my assigned
house chores. In doing this online trend through the use of social media apps
I was able to express myself specially when I experience difficulty or problems
with my family, I usually made a status about what I feel without mentioning
those people or person who touches or breaks my heart caused I don’t want
him/her to be judged by other people and I usually delete it afterwards, I write
in the status what I feel because I wanted him/her to know what I feel deep
inside because I am not good at confrontation. And through this status it really
is a great help because I was able to make a deeper relationship with my
family and friends though they are living far away.
