Gastrointestinal System
Tongue showing circumvallate papilla

1.lined by stratified squamous nonkeratinized epithelium.


2. taste buds are present in the lateral wall of circumvallate
papilla
3. Von Ebner’s gland present
Tongue showing fungiform and filiform papilla

1. Lined by Stratified Squamous Epithelium (non


keratinized in fungiform & partially keratinised in
filiform)
2. Having taste buds on apical surface of fungiform papilla
only
3. Lamina propria having numerous indentations
4. Filiform(pointed) and fungiform(blunt)
Oesophagus

1. Lined by SSE non keratinized


2. Oesophageal mucus glands present in submucosa
C-O junction

1. Junction of stratified squamous non keratinesed epithelium of


oesophagous side and simple columnar epithelium of cardiac
side of stomach
2. Lamina propria of oesophageal side contains oesophago-
cardiac glands(mucus gland)
3. Submucosa of oesophagous side have oesophageal gland
proper but submucosa of cardiac gland don’t have any mucus
gland
Fundus of the stomach

1. Lined by simple columnar epithelium


2. Shallow gastric pits occupying one-fourth of the mucosa
3. Presence of four layers:- mucosa, submucosa, muscularis
externa, serosa
4. Gastric glands are numerous in lamina propria.
Pylorus of stomach

1. Presence of four layers- mucosa, submucosa, muscularis


externa, serosa
2. Gastric pits occupying two-third of gastric mucosa
3. Presence of pyloric glands in mucosa
4. Oxyntic cells visible in gastric glands
Duodenum

1. Lined by simple columnar epithelium


1. Presence of four layers- mucosa, submucosa, muscularis
externa, serosa
2. Brunner’s gland in submucosa
3. Goblet cells present
Jejunum

1. Wall made up of four layers


2. Mucosa lined by simple columnar epithelium, goblet
cells
3. Leaf like villi
4. Absence of brunner’s gland in submucosa
5. Absence of lymphatic follicles in mucosa
Ileum

1. Lined by simple columnar epi with numerous goblet


cells
2. Lymphatic follicles in mucosa (Payers patches seen)
3. Thorn shaped villi present
4. Wall made up of four layers
Colon

1. Villi absent
2. Lined by simple columnar epithelium with numerous goblet
cells and crypts present
3. Lymphatic follicles dispersed in lamina propria
4. Presence of taenia coli
Vermiform Appendix

1. Lined by simple columnar epithelium, numerous goblet


cells
2. Lamina propria is having numerous lymphatic follicles.
3. Villi and taenia coli absent
LIVER

1. Each Hexagonal lobule has small round space in the centre


known as central vein
2. A number of broad irregular cords of cell seen to pass from
these veins to the periphery of the lobule. These cords are
made up of polygonal cells known as hepatocytes.
3. At regular interval between hepatocytes filled by connective
tissue called Portal Canal which has bile duct, branch of hepatic
artery, branch of portal vein
GALL BLADDER

1. Lined by tall columnar epithelium


2. Mucosa is highly branched and anastomosing
3. Submucosa is absent
4. Presence of fibro muscular coat
PANCREAS

1. Numerous serous acini present


2. Interlobular duct lined by simple cuboidal epithelium
3. Presence of islets of Langerhans
UROGENITAL SYSTEM
KIDNEY

1. Renal corpuscle present which consist of bowman’s


capsule & glomerulus
2. Loop of henle is lined by simple squamous epithelium
3. PCT is darkly stained and lined by brush bordered
simple cuboidal epithelium
4. DCT is lightly stained and lined by simple cuboidal
epithelium
URETER

1. Star shaped lumen


2. Mucosa is lined by transitional epithelium
3. Muscle layer are- Inner longitudinal and
outer circular layer
4. Covered by tunica adventitia layer
URINARY BLADDER

1. Transitional epithelium is present


2. Muscle coat are- i)inner longitudinal
ii)middle circular
iii)outer longitudinal
3. Outside is surrounded by serous layer
TESTIS

1. Seminiferous tubules present


2. In between seminiferous tubules, interstitial space
present which is filled by connective tissue. Cells
present in it are interstitial cells of Leydig
3. Sustentacular cells of Sertoli(supporting cell) present
4. Primary spermatocytes present
EPIDIDYMIS

1. Pseudostratified columnar epithelium with stereocilia


present
2. At lumen clumps of spermatozoa is present
3. At the luminal wall smooth muscle fibres are present
VAS DEFERENS

1. Star shaped lumen


2. Pseudostratified columnar epithelium present
3. Thick muscle layer present (inner longitudinal,
middle circular & outer longitudinal)
PROSTATE

1. It is fibro-musculo-glandular organ
2. Follicle(glandular part) is lined by simple columnar
epithelium
3. Having fibromuscular stroma
4. Smooth muscle cells also present
5. In some follicles prostatic correction (amyeloid body)
present
OVARY

1. Germinal epithelium is simple cuboidal


epithelium
2. Follicles at different stages are present
3. Corpus luteum present
FALLOPIAN TUBE

1. Mucosa is highly folded and each fold shows several


branching
2. Mucosa is lined by ciliated columnar epithelium
3. Peg cells are present in between columnar cells
4. Muscle layer- i)inner circular
ii)outer longitudinal
5. Serosa layer present
UTERUS (proliferative phase)

1. Endometrium mucosa is 2 layered structure i) simple


columnar
ii)lamina propria
(innervated by tubular
glands & it is short
height
2. Endometrium is thin
VAGINA

1. Mucosa is 2 layered structure- i)stratified squamous


non keratinised epithelium
2. Lymphatic nodules present
3. Muscle layer- inner circular & outer longitudinal
(surrounding to this, skeletal tissue present)
4. Outer layer is adventitia
LYMPHOID ORGANs
LYMPH NODES

1. Lymphatic follicles are arranged in the cortical regions


2. Presence of subcapsular sinus
3. In medullary region: medullary cords & medullary
sinuses present
SPLEEN

1. Presence of Red pulp & white pulp


2. Throughout the spleen, there are lymphatic
follicles
3. Central arteriole in white pulp present
eccentrically
4. Cords of bilroth are present
THYMUS

1. Hassal’s corpuscle at the germinal centre


2. Aggregation of lymphocytes are arranged in an
lobulated manner separated by inter lobular
septa
PALTINE TONSIL

1. Covered by stratified squamous non keratinised


epithelium, along with lymphatic follicles
2. Presence of tonsillar crypts
THIN SKIN

1. Epidermis- stratified squamous keratinised epithetlium


2. Dermis- hair follicle present and sebaceous glands are
present adjacent to it
3. Dermal and epidermal papilla are seen in junction of
dermis and epidermis
4. Adipose tissue are also present
THICK SKIN

1. Stratified squamous keratinised with more


thickening(stratum corneum layer)
2. Only sweat glands present
3. No hair follicles
Parotid Gland

1. Numerous Serous acini are present and darkly


stained due to presence of zymogen granules
2. Intercalated ducts present
Submandibular Gland

1. Mixed gland, predominantly serous, mucus glands also


present
2. Mucus acini has serous demilune
Sublingual Salivary gland

1. Predominantly mucous gland but few serous acini may


also be seen
2. Serous demilune present
TRACHEA

1. Lined by pseudostratified ciliated columnar


epithelium with goblet cells
2. Serous and mucous glands present
3. Presence of hyaline cartilage
LUNGS

1. Presence of alveolar ducts


2. Alveolar sac lined by SSE
3. Respiratory bronchioles lined by simple cuboidal epi.
4. Presence of intrapulmonary bronchus with patches of
hyaline cartilage
CNS
SPINAL CORD

1. Grey mater and white mater present


2. Butterfly/H-shaped grey mater which is at center
and surrounded by white mater
3. Central canal lined by simple columnar epithelium
and having Ependymal cells.
4. Horns that passes forward are anterior horn and
backward are posterior horn
CEREBRUM

1. Cortex shows outer grey and inner white


2. Multi polar neurons of various shapes are
arranged in six layers
3. Axons of these neurons are present in white
mater
CEREBELLAR CORTEX

1. Sections of cerebellum shows leaf like follia


2. Outrer grey mater consist of 3 layers- i)molecular layer
ii)purkinje cell layer
iii)granular cell layer
3. Inner white mater shows axon
THYROID GLAND

1. Follicles lined by simple cuboidal epithelium


2. Follicles are filled with colloid substances
3. Para follicular cells are present in the connective
tissue surrounding the follicles
SUPRARENAL/ADRENAL GLAND

1. Capsule present
2. Cortex divisible into 3 zones- i) zona glomerulosa
ii)zona fascilulata
iii)zona reticularis
3. Cells are present as inverted U shape arrangement in zona
glomerulosa
4. Cells are arranged in straight columns in zona fasciculata
5. Cells are arranged in cord like fashion which are branched &
form network
6. Medulla is made up of group of cells separated by sinusoids
COMPACT BONES

1. Haversian system made of concentric lamella lacunae


with osteocytes haversian cannel containing blood
vessels and nerves are seen.
2. Three types pf lamella are seen i. circumferential
ii. Concentric
iii. interstitial
3. Canaliculi radiate from lacunae.
