Gas Meter Assessment

Gas meter are used to measure the consumption of LPG used by a consumer.

Gas meters measure the volume of gas at existing line conditions of pressure and
temperature

Gas meters are normally rated in terms of displaced cubic meter per hour

Steps:

1. Assessment of Pipeline pressure (Check pressure at the tank firm and the furthest
point in the systems)
2. Assessment of individual gas meters: Check installation and meter inlet pressure
3. Collection of data
- Tank level gauge (Daily for a week); Record tank % to help reconcile the
meter readings
- Individual gas meters in the respective hotel/restaurants
- System Pressure at every gas meter (Install missing Pressure Gauges)
4. Data analysis and conversion of meter reading to KG
- Daily analysis of consumption
- Weekly gas consumption
- 1-Month data
- Investigate past meter reading (to be provided by the client)
5. Establish standard conditions for billing the client
Case 1: System Pressure 500mbar

Assumptions

1. Gas meter type - G2.5

2. Maximum operating pressure of Gas Meter 0.5bar
3. Agreed gas billing standard condition
a. Pressure - 500mbar
b. Temperature - 240C
4. LPG Content; 80% Butane and 20% Propane

Mass of gas consumed = Meter Movement x Correction Factor x Vapor Specific

- Sample Correction Factor = 3.3937 (Dependant on Temperature,

Pressure and Energy Content)
