Additional Exam Materials List 2024
Additional Exam Materials List 2024
The ‘Additional Materials’ section on the front covers of question papers will say: ‘You will need:’. This will
list what the candidate needs and will include items we provide such as an answer booklet, an insert or a
map. It will also include the extra exam materials that you need to provide to the candidate in addition to
the standard materials that all candidates need.
Calculators are no longer listed in this document as additional exam materials for mathematics components.
See ‘Materials candidates must provide’ below.
It is essential that you make sure that candidates do not bring any unauthorised materials into the exam
room. See section 5.1.7 of the Cambridge Handbook for further guidance on this.
Calculators
Candidates may use calculators in exams unless the relevant syllabus and the front of the question paper
state that calculators are prohibited.
PLEASE NOTE: Calculators are not allowed for certain mathematics components. See the 'Materials
candidates must provide' section at the top of this page.
If the syllabus or the front of the question paper do not state that calculators are prohibited or do not
mention calculators, candidates can use a calculator if they want to.
Invigilators should check a sample of the candidates’ calculators before the start of the exam to make sure
they comply with our regulations in section 5 of the Cambridge Handbook.
For Associate Centres we may, in consultation with the relevant Cambridge Associate, issue specific local
regulations for the use of calculators. Where this happens, the local regulations will override any other
regulations.
Refer to section 5.1.6.1 of the Cambridge Handbook for further guidance.
Dictionaries
Electronic dictionaries are not allowed in any exam. This includes tablets and e-readers.
Rough paper
• Candidates should do any rough work on the question paper, or the answer booklet if provided, and
cross through it neatly so it can be seen. You are allowed to provide candidates with additional
rough paper if there is limited space on the question paper to do their rough work. If candidates
have used additional rough paper, you should ask them to cross through the rough work neatly and
to hand it in with their answer scripts.
